Our Flag Means Death on HBO Max has a devoted following that has been itching for any bit of information about the show. It appears that the series will soon take sail once more. The highly awaited return of the historical pirate comedy has already begun production for a second season, as revealed by series actor Samba Schutte. Schutte, who portrays Roach, the ship’s cook, tweeted a photo of the chair he uses on set, complete with Roach’s name printed across the back. The black-and-white photo was accompanied by the message “Day 1 ahoy,” which confirmed that filming had begun.
David Jenkins, the show’s creator and writer, gave fans a taste of what to expect from the forthcoming second season a month ago when he posted a picture of the script for the debut episode of Season 2 on his personal Twitter profile. The image Schutte shared doesn’t reveal much about the show’s revival, but at least production has begun, which is excellent news for fans. Our Flag Means Death is a comedic sitcom set in the Golden Age of Piracy and inspired, at least in part, by the real-life exploits of Stede Bonnet, aka “the Gentleman Pirate” (Rhys Darby).
Bonnet leaves his affluent life in Barbados to establish himself as a pirate. He and the oddball crew aboard his ship, The Revenge, have numerous adventures and meet many historical figures along the way, including Taika Waititi’s Edward Teach, nicknamed Blackbeard. Cast members Nathan Foad, Samson Kayo, Vico Ortiz, Ewen Bremner, Joel Fry, Matt Maher, Kristian Nairn, Con O’Neill, David Fane, Rory Kinnear, Nat Faxon, Fred Armisen, and Leslie Jones join series regulars Waititi and Darby. Waititi isn’t only a star on the programme; he’s also an executive producer.
Creator Jenkins, along with Garrett Basch and Dan Halsted, are also on staff. Even though HBO Max hasn’t officially announced who will be back for Season 2, we do know that Guz Khan, who portrayed Blackbeard’s crewmate Ivan in Season 1, will not be returning for Season 2. While there is no word on when Season 2 of Our Flag Means Death will premiere, you can watch the whole first season on HBO Max right now.
