The creator of Final Space, Olan Rogers, has some disappointing news for fans who have been wondering what happened to the show. The creator of an animated series recently said on Twitter that Warner Bros. Discovery is pulling the show off all platforms in order to take a tax deduction. Rogers informed his audience that “five years of my life, three seasons of TV” equates to the time it took to create the show. What started as “blood, sweat, and tears” for the network that now owns Final Space is now a tax deduction.
Even though the show is still available on Netflix, Rogers says that when the licence expires, Netflix will pull the plug on the show as well, and “then it will be gone forever.” He also said “no tangible copies of Season 3 were ever manufactured” and that Seasons 1 and 2 are already out of print. The only way the programme will continue to exist in the future is if someone holds on to a copy, therefore don’t let go if you have one. Since CEO David Zaslav and his administration took over the studio, Warner Bros. Discovery has cancelled many projects, including the Leslie Grace-led superhero picture Batgirl, which had a $90 million budget and was in the final stages of post-production.
Being a tax write-off is tragic since it prevents the film from being resold in any manner. Fans will never again be able to view their beloved characters in any medium after Final Space is taken down since no more physical copies are accessible. Olan said, “I’ve been trying to absorb how this feels, and it’s been hard because it’s just so bizarre.” While Rogers acknowledges that this choice is “simply business,” he insisted that Final Space will “always be personal to me.” I will not stop fighting for this story and these people. When asked about the fan-led effort to save the series using the hashtag #renewfinalspace, Rogers replied, “It’s a banner that you guys have been waving, and it’s a rallying cry I can stand behind while I go into this long dark night pursuing an ending for this narrative.”
Even though the series was cancelled before the Warner Bros. and Discovery merger, it is the latest victim of the studio’s tax write-off strategy. In Final Spaces, we follow Gary Goodspeed, a dim-witted but good-hearted astronaut serving out his sentence on board the prison spaceship Galaxy One, where he has a chance to meet with a planet-destroying extraterrestrial. He befriends him, gives him the name Mooncake, and eventually learns that the evil Lord Commander is after them. The two then set off on a mission to preserve the cosmos, all the while seeking to learn more about Final Space, the strange place where the cosmos appears to end. The last season of Final Space is now streaming on Netflix.
