Mattel TV revealed today that youngsters can once again experience double vision. A new teaser for the upcoming second season of the Netflix original series Barbie: It Takes Two gives a glimpse into the exciting new adventures that children can look forward to in less than two weeks. The series will once again follow the lives of Malibu and Brooklyn, two best friends on a mission to become famous musicians. In the preview, we get a taste of the wacky situations that will befall the two Barbies.
It appears like both Brooklyn and Malibu will do everything it takes to have a good time and be inspired to develop exciting new songs, from performing at a county fair to eating two whole pizzas to fund their tour to go on a road trip to fishing and camping. The 2021 film Barbie: Big City, Big Dreams is followed by the 2022 film Barbie: It Takes Two, just one of several titles found on the Barbie YouTube account. Given that the iconic children’s toy has been around for nearly 60 years and has been presented in hundreds of various forms, the breadth of Barbie-related material is hardly surprising.

In addition to the show, Greta Gerwig, who has been nominated for an Oscar for her work as a filmmaker, is hard at work on a live-action film adaptation (Lady Bird). We don’t know much about the plot yet, but we do know that it will be subversive since it will critique the beauty industry by focusing on its most extreme example. Starring Margot Robbie (I, Tonya) and Ryan Gosling (The Gray Man) as the lead and her lover Ken, respectively. Will Ferrell, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Simu Liu, Emerald Fennell, Jamie Demetriou, Kate McKinnon, Michael Cera, America Ferrera, Issa Rae, Alexandra Shipp, and Ncuti Gatwa are all a part of the massive and stellar cast.
In 2022, the toy line will introduce the first transgender Barbie, modelled by the Oscar-winning producer, actor, writer, and activist Laverne Cox. The designer of the new Barbie believes that LGBTQIA+ children “may see this Barbie and feel a sense of optimism and possibilities.”
