Despite the numerous scandals surrounding Olivia Wilde’s Don’t Worry Darling, including spit takes and on-set disputes amongst performers, the film’s box office total appears to be holding up well. Before its wide release on September 23rd, Wilde’s second feature film as director earned $3.15 million from early screenings. The preview box office for Don’t Worry Darling was generated by both Monday’s Don’t Worry Darling: The IMAX Live Experience and Thursday’s preview showings, which began at 4 p.m. on September 22.
Screenings of the IMAX Live Experience were a huge success for both Warner Bros. and IMAX, selling out in less than 24 hours at an estimated 13,000 tickets across 100 venues in the United States and setting a record for the quickest-selling event ever. Live from New York, producer/director Wilde and cast members Harry Styles, Gemma Chan, Nick Kroll, Sydney Chandler, Kyle Berlant, Asif Ali, and Douglas Smith participated in a Q&A with those in attendance. Florence Pugh, the show’s star, was conspicuously absent from the IMAX Live Experience, which shouldn’t have surprised viewers. It looks like Wilde’s follow-up to 2019’s Booksmart is off to a wonderful start at the box office, and that would be fantastic if it ended up surpassing everyone’s expectations. Warner Bros.’s initial estimate for the film’s opening was $17 million; today, industry insiders are speculating that the picture might debut anywhere from $20 million to $36 million.
Put Your Mind at Ease, To put it mildly, reviewers and moviegoers have had mixed reactions to Darling. On Rotten Tomatoes, critics have given the film a 36% approval rating based on 160 reviews, while audiences have given it an 87% approval rating based on more than 100 reviews. Don’t Worry Darling reunites Wilde with Set It Up writer Katie Silberman (who also co-wrote Booksmart with Emily Halpern, Sarah Haskins, and Susanna Fogel) and follows Alice (Pugh) and Jack (Styles), a happily married couple in the 1950s.
As time goes on, Alice’s curiosity wins out, and she makes efforts to learn more about the hidden aspects of her existence. The new Warner Bros. film, “Don’t Worry, Darling,” has just opened in cinemas. Showtimes and other details may be found on their website.
