Storm Reid, who appeared in Euphoria, will play the lead role in the upcoming sequel The Nun, set in the same universe as the original The Conjuring. In the first film, Taissa Farmiga and Demian Bichir played a priest and a novice who are terrorised by Valek, a demon that has appeared in numerous Conjuring Universe films. When compared to its budget of only $22 million, The Nun’s final worldwide take of $365.6 million makes it the most successful film in the Conjuring Universe to date. Unconfirmed reports have suggested that the events of The Nun 2 would take place in 1950s France, although the film’s narrative remains under wraps for the time being. Reid’s involvement in the movie is similarly being kept under wraps at the moment.
Farmiga is in discussions to return as well, and she’ll be joining Bonnie Aarons in the lead role. Michael Chaves, whose most recent film was The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, is at the helm of The Nun 2. Screenwriter Akela Cooper’s original draught for Malignant is now being adapted to film by Ian Goldberg and Richard Naing. The movie will start filming in October. The second instalment of The Nun is scheduled for a 2020 theatrical release.
Reid is presently a force to be reckoned with in Hollywood, having established herself as a formidable actress with a string of strong performances in both TV and film. Her breakthrough portrayal as Meg Murry in Disney’s A Wrinkle in Time, a family fantasy film released in 2018, brought Reid widespread attention. Following that, Reid started playing Gia Bennett on HBO’s smash adolescent drama Euphoria, the sister of Rue Bennett, played by Zendaya.
Reid’s filmography since then includes the leading roles in Don’t Let Go, The Invisible Man, and The Suicide Squad. In addition to her future roles in Searching 2 and Killing Winston Jones, as well as HBO’s upcoming series The Last of Us, the outstanding actress recently participated in this year’s action movie One Way with Machine Gun Kelly. James Wan, master of all things spooky, is producing the new feature under his Atomic Monster label. To date, Wan and Peter Safran have co-produced all eight films in the Conjuring Universe: The Conjuring, The Conjuring 2, Annabelle, Annabelle: Creation, The Nun, The Curse of La Llorona, Annabelle Comes Home, and The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It.
Atomic Monster’s director Judson Scott will be in charge of production, and Annabelle Comes Home’s Gary Dauberman and The Nun 2’s Michael Clear will be the film’s executive producers. The release date for the second instalment of The Nun is set for September 8, 2023.
