Though dinosaurs have long since gone the way of the dodo, the Jurassic World film series is far from over. The final film in the Jurassic World trilogy, Jurassic World: Dominion, has become the first of the franchise’s three films to gross over $1 billion worldwide.
Dominion has officially exceeded the $1 billion worldwide milestone, despite having experienced a “theatrical extinction event” in the United States (the picture was only shown in 205 theatres this past weekend, earning $75,685 domestically). A total of almost $6 billion has been made by all of the Jurassic Park movies. There has been a steady decline in the franchise’s box office success with each Jurassic World picture, despite the fact that all of them have made over $1 billion. The 2015 film Jurassic World earned $1.6 billion globally, ranking it eighth all-time, and $652 million in the United States alone.
The worldwide total for Jurassic World: the Fallen Kingdom was $1.3 billion, while the domestic total was $417 million. Dominion, the final picture in the sequel trilogy, only just pushed the film beyond $1 billion, although it only made $376 million domestically, which is less than the domestic revenue of the original Jurassic Park (1993). The movie may be purchased on digital platforms, as well as Blu-ray and DVD. A 14-minute long director’s edit is included in the home media releases. Theatrical and extended versions of Dominion may be seen on demand by Peacock subscribers. As the (likely) final instalment in the Jurassic Park film series, Dominion served as the Spider-Man: No Way Home of the dinosaur-centric franchise, uniting fans of both the original and the newer films in the series.
The film follows Chris Pratt’s Owen Grady and Bryce Dallas Howard and Anne Hathaway’s Claire Dearing and Maisie Lockwood as they continue their investigation (Isabella Sermon). All of their storylines intertwine as they band together to combat Biosyn’s next danger and feature familiar faces including Dr Ellie Sattler (Laura Dern), Dr Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum), and Dr Alan Grant (Sam Neill). Colin Trevorrow, who directed the first instalment of the Jurassic World sequel trilogy and returned for the third instalment (Dominion), is following in the footsteps of J.J. Abrams, who helmed the recent Star Wars sequel trilogy. Trevorrow and Emily Carmichael wrote the screenplay for the picture, which also features DeWanda Wise, Mamoudou Athie, BD Wong, and Omar Sy.
Available now on Blu-ray, DVD, and digital devices is Jurassic World: Dominion.
