NBC has published a new teaser for the upcoming second season of the sci-fi fan favourite La Brea, and it promises more mystery and peril for the survivors than in the first season. Time and distance still separate the Harris family, making reunification a difficult endeavour. A year ago, NBC aired the pilot episode of La Brea, which went on to become an immediate smash and the network’s highest-rated new series of the fall. At first, a sinkhole appeared in present-day Los Angeles, swallowing everything and everyone in its path, including Eve (Natalie Zea) and Josh Harris (Jack Martin).
But instead of going far beneath, they find themselves in an ancient and hostile world, populated by primitive humans and creatures, around the year 10,000 B.C. Gavin (Eoin Macken), Eve’s husband, is certain that everyone who fell into the sinkhole is still alive and is looking for ways to contact them and bring them back as the survivors of the sinkhole band together to face the deadly new environment. The new trailer, titled “Survival is the Only Way Home,” picks up with the Harris family right where they left off in the previous season, with Gavin and his daughter Izzy (Zyra Gorecki) travelling through time, Eve still trying to stay alive, and Josh still in 1988 after he stepped through a portal by accident.
The stakes are immediately raised by the introduction of additional threats, such as more prehistoric creatures and the impending threat posed by the vicious Exiles who capture Eve. Gavin and Izzy face grave peril on their maiden voyage to the past as they go from ancient Seattle to modern Los Angeles in search of Eve and the other survivors. Since there appears to be no way to return to the 1980s or even 10,000 B.C., things look particularly grim for Josh and the others stuck there. The sinkhole and the time period the survivors are trapped in generating even more concerns.
In yet another demonstration of her superior knowledge, Rebecca Albridge (Ming Zhu-Hii) exposes a hidden stairway going down into a cave, adding to the mounting evidence that not everything is as it seems. The largest and most fascinating turn of events, however, occurs near the conclusion when another sinkhole opens up beneath the Hollywood sign, providing both an eye-catching set-piece and a fresh riddle for the audience to unravel. Jon Seda, Nicholas Gonzalez, Chiké Okonkwo, Veronica St. Clair, Rohan Mirchandaney, Lily Santiago, Josh McKenzie, Tonantzin Carmelo, and Michelle Vergara Moore all appear in the series with the Harris family members.
La Brea has also enlisted Season 2’s help from Jonno Roberts. The series was created by David Appelbaum, and he plans to continue developing the mystery with the help of executive producers Avi Nir, Alon Shtruzman, Peter Traugott, Rachel Kaplan, Chris Hollier, Adam Davidson, Bryan Wynbrandt, Steven Lilien, Ken Woodruff, and Arika Lisanne Mittman. On Tuesday, September 27, fresh episodes of La Brea Season 2 will premiere on Peacock.
