New character posters of the Sanderson sisters were revealed to Disney+’s official Twitter on September 22. These fans have been waiting a long time for Hocus Pocus 2. Posters of Kathy Najimy as Mary Sanderson, Bette Milder as Winifred Sanderson, and Sarah Jessica Parker as Sarah Sanderson are featured in a three-part Twitter thread. Mary wears a red cloak, while Sarah wears a purple one; both are dressed in purple gowns and are facing left and right, respectively. Winifred wears a green gown and cloak, and her wand of green magic shoots from one of her hands. You can see the film’s title and the slogan “We’re back, witches” down near the bottom.
All three sisters have a bright and turbulent sky behind them, and they all seem primed to make trouble and mayhem. In the 1993 film Hocus Pocus, Najimy, Milder, and Parker play the Sanderson sisters, a coven of witches accidentally resurrected by a little boy in Salem, Massachusetts on Halloween night. Although it bombed when it was first released, the picture has now become a cult favourite thanks to a surge in sales and TV airings every October. Opening the spellbook to show the eye is still alive at the end of the film leaves the door open for a possible sequel.
This follow-up, which will take place 29 years after the events of the original film, is rapidly approaching. To prevent the Sanderson sisters from causing havoc on modern-day Salem, three high school kids must work together, just as in the original Hocus Pocus. Doug Jones comes back in the character of Winifred’s ex-lover Billy Butcherson from the previous film, and Kathy Najimy, Betty Milder, and Tim Parker also return as the Sanderson family.
New cast members include high school students Whitney Peak (Becca), Lilia Buckingham (Cassie), Belissa Escobedo (Izzy), Hannah Waddingham (The Witch), Tony Hale (Jefry Traske), Sam Richardson (Gilbert), and Froy Gutierrez (Mike). In addition, RuPaul’s Drag Race contestants Ginger Minj, Kornbread Jete, and Kahmora Hall will play drag queen versions of the Sanderson sisters. With its debut on Disney+ on September 30, fans won’t have to wait long for the film debut.
