Whoopi Goldberg has shown an interest in participating in the next Sister Act 3 film. And she’d want to do it with Jenifer Lewis, who was also in the first Sister Act movie.
Co-host Goldberg discussed her interest in appearing in Sister Act 3 with Lewis on the ABC chat show The View (who stars as Ruby Johnson in the hit show Black-ish). Goldberg remarked on the show, “You know we’re still going to do that movie.” And I’d go out of my way to get a job where I could collaborate with her because she’s so entertaining. Deloris Van Cartier, played by Goldberg, and Michelle, played by Lewis, were both featured in the original 1992 picture Sister Act. Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit, released in 1993, was one of four films in which the duo collaborated.
Whoopi introduced Lewis to the audience by saying that she and her co-star Lewis were “incomparable.” Lewis responded positively to Goldberg’s words, saying she was “so excited” to return to her role in the Disney+ sequel. Lewis shared on the show how she had a great time working on the first film, and how she even taught Whoopi how to sing during production. In reference to the usage of his voice, Lewis stated, “I told Whoopi, ‘Look, you just go in this mirror with the two of us, and you just get a hairbrush and pretend that we’re fifteen years old singing Gladys Knight and the Pips.'” “Whoopi did it, she sang her little booty off,” Lewis said.
When Whoopi and Lewis first met, Lewis, expressed her love for Whoopi’s talent and recalled thinking “my career is finished” after seeing Whoopi’s one-woman show in New York. In December of 2020, it was revealed that Disney+ would be streaming a direct-to-streaming version of Sister Act 3. Tim Federle and Madhuri Shekar were announced as the film’s director and writer in 2020, but since then, there have been no updates on the film’s production status. Cast, narrative, filming schedule, release date, and additional crew members are all part of the package. The first Sister Act picture, directed by Emile Ardolino and written by Paul Rudnick, was released in 1992. (as Joseph Howard). Deloris Van Cartier (Goldberg) is a nightclub singer who, upon learning of her ex-boyfriend Vince LaRocca’s (Harvey Keitel) criminal activities, is forced to flee from him.
Deloris, now known as Sister Mary Clarence, was sent into hiding as a nun after being accused of murder, and the Reverend Mother quickly put her in charge of revitalising the St. Katherine’s choir (Maggie Smith). In Bill Duke’s 1993 sequel, Deloris is once again giving music lessons to recalcitrant youngsters at San Francisco’s St. Francis Academy. There are two Sister Act movies available on Disney Plus right now: the original and Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit.
