A final trailer for Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, the criminal biography series created by Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan, has been published with just one day till its premiere. Evan Peters’ portrayal of the Milwaukee Cannibal, a notorious serial murderer, has been the subject of intense speculation in recent months, but aside from a single photograph, little has been revealed about the actor’s approach to the role. A slew of additional materials, including an official trailer and interviews with Peters and his co-star Niecy Nash, poured our way at the week’s close. There is a new trailer out today that gives us an even more disturbing and terrifying glimpse into the life of the man who murdered at least 17 people between 1978 and 1991.
It provides a more in-depth look at Nash’s personality as well as Peters’ chilling evolution into Dahmer. Peters indicated during his interview with Netflix that Murphy and Brennan will not delve too far into the gory details in order to focus on the victims and the lives destroyed by Dahmer. Instead, they intend to elaborate on the reasons why Dahmer was able to prey on other homosexual men and people of colour with the knowledge that law enforcement was more likely to turn a blind eye to his crimes. Nash will play Dahmer’s next-door neighbour Glenda Cleveland, who tried to halt the murders by reporting the weird noises and stench coming from Dahmer’s apartment. Peters will play the primary role of the serial murderer.
Richard Jenkins will play Dahmer’s father, Lionel Dahmer; Penelope Ann Miller will play Dahmer’s mother, Joyce Dahmer; Molly Ringwald will play Dahmer’s stepmother, Shari Dahmer; Michael Learned will play Dahmer’s grandmother, Catherine Dahmer; Colin Ford will play Chazz; and Shaun J. Brown will play Tracy Edwards, the man who would put an end to Dahmer’s reign of terror. Peters is the second major Hollywood actor to take on the role of a serial murderer for Netflix; in 2019, Zac Efron played Ted Bundy in the Joe Berlinger-directed narrative movie Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil, and Vile. The new teaser released today gives Netflix’s already robust library of crime programming what seems to be another absolute must-watch for any real crime fan.
