New ‘Sonic Prime’ Trailer, Release Date, Cast, Synopsis & More

The first trailer for Sonic Prime, Netflix’s new 3D animated series based on SEGA’s iconic hedgehog mascot, has been published. Sonic and his companions will embark on a journey beyond dimensions in this show because the Blue Blur has broken reality and has to put it back together again. The new teaser trailer for Sonic Prime may not offer much about the story, but it does indicate that the film will be faithful to the games. To begin, the clip mostly takes place at Green Hill, the initial area of the original Sonic game.

The scientist Dr Robotinik appears in the teaser once again piloting a massive mecha robot in an attempt to defeat Sonic, suggesting that he will continue to be the series’ primary antagonist. Preview footage shows Sonic on Green Hill engaging Dr Robotnik. In spite of this, the series’ summary makes it clear that their conflict will lead to the disintegration of reality, plunging Sonic into the Shatterverse, a world where all dimensions collide. Sonic Prime’s supporting cast is hinted at in the latest trailer. Sonic mostly engages in gun battles with Shadow, an antiheroic black hedgehog who isn’t afraid to fire first and ask questions later.

Shadow made an appearance during Sonic the Hedgehog 2’s mid-credits sequence, so it’s possible that his Netflix debut may be followed by a theatrical release. The teaser for Sonic Prime also reveals that Big the Cat and Froggy will play a role in the series. That’s hardly surprising, as the Shatterverse allows the complete Sonic cast to show up. Though Sonic Prime is not canon with live-action movies, it will keep fans occupied until the release of Sonic the Hedgehog 3 on December 20, 2024.

There will also be a live-action series starring Knuckles, with Idris Elba providing his signature red echinoid voice. Sonic Prime’s first season includes one 40-minute special episode and seven 20-minute episodes, all produced by SEGA, WildBrain, and Marza. Netflix has announced that the show will premiere this winter.

Synopsis
When Sonic the Hedgehog has a run-in with the evil Dr Eggman, the universe-altering consequences send his adventures into hyperdrive. Sonic embarks on a once-in-a-lifetime journey across the Shatterverse, visiting bizarre new planets and making new allies as he tries to restore his original reality and save his buddies.
