The new trailer for Let The Right One In, the forthcoming Showtime adaptation of the 2004 novel by Swedish author John Ajvide Lindqvist that spawned the 2008 Swedish film of the same name, the 2010 English-language version Let Me In starring Chloe Grace Moretz, and a stage play, has been published. On October 7, right in time for Halloween, the first of 10 episodes of the new thriller will be made available online. After his daughter Eleanor (Madison Taylor Baez, Selena: The Series) was changed into a vampire ten years ago, Mark (Demián Bichir, The Nun) attempts to give her the best life he can. Eleanor, now 12, is trapped in her house and can only leave at night to collect blood from her father.
The series presents a fresh interpretation of vampire mythology, defying audience expectations established by previous film adaptations that were more faithful to the source material. Isaiah (Ian Foreman; Ordinary Joe) is a little child who befriends the mysterious girl who lives in the flat next door to him by sending her Morse code over the wall. Her father’s misguided attempts to collect blood for her raise suspicions about the recent increase in reports of missing people and attempted attacks in the region.
When he is unable to supply the young vampire with the blood she needs to survive, she is left to fend for herself. In the original horror story, young Oskar unwittingly makes friends with a vampire who seems to be his age. Eli, a vampire who has been trapped in the body of a child since her transformation many years ago, lives alone with a man named Hkon, who helps her acquire the human blood she needs to survive. The teaser hints at several significant differences between the original book and the new film version, including the suggestion that Mark is the girl’s biological father rather than a friend serving as a caregiver to avoid suspicion. There are also hints that the father and daughter are actively searching for the vampire who converted Eleanor all those years ago, rather than simply surviving and keeping a low profile. This is implicit in the trailer’s opening line: “Discover the host, find the cure.”
Veteran Penny Dreadful staffer Andrew Hinderaker is behind the scenes as showrunner, EP, and writer. Let the Right One In will include Seith Mann in many directorial roles, and he will also serve as a co-executive producer alongside Marty Adelstein, Becky Clements, and Alissa Bachner. In addition to starring in and producing the show, Bichir is joined by Power’s Anika Noni Rose, Mr Robot’s Grace Gummer, Snowfall’s Kevin Carroll, Merry Wish-Ian Mas’s Foreman, Colony’s Jacob Buster, and Fear the Walking Dead’s, Nick Stahl.
On October 7th, Showtime will premiere Let the Right One In.
