Actor Charlie Barnett, who previously worked with The Acolyte creator Leslye Headland on the web series Russian Doll, has been cast in the next Star Wars series. No information has been released about Barnett’s role, however, The Hollywood Reporter claims that he will play a “supporting” figure. The Acolyte’s narrative is being kept under wraps, although the series summary and setting suggest it takes place in the latter days of the High Republic, the so-called “golden age” of the Jedi Order and the time when the Jedi were at the height of their authority.
Set some 250 years before the events of The Phantom Menace, this time period is the subject of a multi-platform publishing venture dubbed Star Wars: The High Republic. The show will take place at the conclusion of the era when the movie’s storylines pick up. In Russian Doll, played by Josh Barnett, the protagonist and antagonist, respectively, were a guy named Alex and a woman named Nadia, played by Natasha Lyonne. Barnett has appeared in many television series, including Chicago Fire, You, and Arrow. Actors Lee Jung-Jae (Squid Game), Jodie Turner-Smith (Queen & Slim), and Manny Jacinto (The Good Place) have joined Amandla Stenberg (the title character) in the expanding cast.
The headland is leading this programme as its director, writer, EP, and showrunner. We don’t know anything about the actors or the characters because of the strict secrecy. The show’s premiere has not been scheduled at this time. Andor, starring Diego Luna, will be the following Star Wars series to debut on Disney+ on September 21.
