According to Deadline, Martin Freeman and Jenna Ortega will be costarring in the forthcoming Lionsgate and Point Grey picture Miller’s Girl. In 2016, screenwriter Jade Halley Bartlett had a script placed on the prestigious Black List, and it will serve as the basis for the next film. Bartlett will not only make his debut as a writer on this picture but also as a director. Little has been released about the film’s narrative, although it will centre on a teacher and his pupil as he sets a creative writing project that has complex repercussions. Production on the film has begun in Georgia, and while Deadline hasn’t revealed their specific roles, it’s safe to assume Ortega and Freeman will portray a pupil and instructor, respectively.
While we can’t wait for the film itself to do the talking, we can’t help but give credit to Jade, whose bright voice draws you into the film’s script. The impending production “eats you alive,” as Lionsgate Motion Picture Group President of Production Erin Westerman put it, as quoted by Deadline. Ortega will also feature in the forthcoming Addams Family spinoff series Wednesday, which will premiere on Netflix with eight episodes and is directed by Tim Burton. After appearing in Scream earlier this year, she will also appear in the sixth edition of the Scream franchise, currently unnamed.
She also stars in the forthcoming Paramount+ crime thriller Finestkind starring Tommy Lee Jones and Ben Foster. The actor will reprise his role as Everett K. Ross in the next Marvel Studios film Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which will be released in theatres on February 16, 2018. Freeman is best known for his portrayals of Bilbo Baggins in The Hobbit trilogy and John Watson in the BBC series Sherlock.
Secret Invasion is a new Marvel Studios series that will premiere on Disney+ in early 2023, and Freeman will reprise his role in the show. The producers of Miller’s Girl are Mary-Margaret Kunze, Josh Fagen of Point Grey, Chelsea Kujawa, and Scott O’Brien of Lionsgate. Miller’s Girl has yet to receive a definitive release date because the film is currently in development.
