In the forthcoming romance drama, The Idea of You, Nicholas Galitzine (Purple Hearts) will play the role of Harry Styles. His next role opposite Anne Hathaway in Michael Showalter’s (The Big Sick, The Eyes of Tammy Faye) television adaptation of Robinne Lee’s best-selling novel of the same name is his second new project with the streaming service. The protagonist of the film is a divorcee named Sophie who is 40 years old (Hathaway). The mother’s life has been difficult since her spouse left her for another woman.
The deadbeat dad’s cancellation of his trip to Coachella with his ex-wife and their 15-year-old daughter is just the icing on the cake. Sophie steps up to the challenge when she has to choose between taking her daughter to the annual music festival or staying home and becoming the cool parent. There, she meets 24-year-old Hayes Campbell (Galitzine), the main singer of the popular boy band August Moon. Sophie is taken by surprise by the ensuing passionate affair. While Lee’s book was released all the way back in 2017, it wasn’t until the early days of COVID that it really took off.
During this time, many people sought freedom from their domestic confines in the novel’s protagonist and the young pop star’s exciting and sensuous adventure. Lee told Vogue that while Styles was a major influence, the novel was never meant to be fan fiction. The author insists that the original intent was for the piece to be about a woman recovering her sexuality and rediscovering herself as she approaches middle age. There have been other contemporary films based on literary works that feature Styles, some of which are either direct fan fiction or inspired by Styles. A cinematic version of a narrative that was initially published on the website for writers known as Wattpad is in the works.
Anna Todd undoubtedly had no idea how big the After franchise would go when she penned the first Styles-centered story that would become one of the books in the series. There have been seven novels and five films based on the narrative in the almost ten years since it was first published, with the fifth and final feature film now in post-production. The first film follows Tessa Young (Josephine Langford), a first-year student at a university, and Hardin Scott, a mysterious young guy who begins to pursue her romantically (Hero Fiennes Tiffin).
The novel’s protagonist, Hardin, stands in for Harry Styles, and the other members of One Direction make cameos as well. The incredible success of the After franchise is demonstrated by the constant production of new instalments. For this reason, we have no doubt that The Idea of You, available exclusively on Prime Video, will be just as popular, despite the fact that it isn’t strictly speaking a fanfiction based on Harry Styles.
