The long-awaited release date for Disney’s live-action Snow White film is March 20, 2024. The movie is only one of many live-action adaptations that Disney is currently producing. While the release date was confirmed at D23, the House of Mouse also debuted the dreamy first trailer for the live-action Little Mermaid, which stars Halle Bailey (who was nominated for a Grammy). And if the trailer is any indicator, the new Snow White will be worth waiting for. Rachel Zegler, who starred in West Side Story, will play the title character, while Gal Gadot, who played Wonder Woman in the last film, will portray the villainous Evil Queen in this one. They’ll be joined by Martin Klebba (Pirates of the Caribbean) as Grumpy and Andrew Burnap (The Inheritance) as a brand-new character named Jonathan in the film.
Marc Webb, director of Sony’s The Amazing Spider-Man, will helm Snow White from a script written by Erin Cressida Wilson (The Girl on the Train) and Greta Gerwig (Barbie, starring Ryan Gosling and Margot Robbie), who is also producing. Despite her beauty, Snow White is an orphan who must endure life with her evil stepmother the Wicked Queen. The Evil Queen is envious of Snow White because, as she matures, she is no longer considered “the prettiest of them all.” When a handsome prince catches sight of Snow White and falls in love with her at first sight, the queen orders her trusty huntsman to take the girl into the woods and murder her, but the man cannot bring himself to carry out the order.
The seven dwarves eventually find Snow White in the jungle after she runs away from them. Disney claims they will finally develop a film adaptation of this narrative that will connect with a contemporary audience. Snow White is one of Disney’s oldest characters, appearing on goods, at theme parks, and elsewhere from the company’s early days. In addition to being the first full-length animated film ever made, “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” also opened the way for a bevvy of other classic animated films that are now also being adapted into live-action films. Hopefully, the new live-action Snow White will continue the fairy tale’s tradition. The feature film, which has completed filming, will be released on March 22, 2024.
