XYZ Films revealed an exclusive new teaser trailer for the cannibal horror thriller Feed Me this morning, along with the news that they have purchased the North American rights to the film written by Adam Leader and Richard Oakes. The protagonist is an assassin, but he or she does much more than just kill their targets (despite what the title would lead you to believe). Meeting a possible victim who has given up the fight makes his life much simpler. The film’s production company released an unusual trailer and told us when we may see it in theatres. On the 27th of October, in time for a tasty Halloween, treat. Not just because of the subject matter (though you can be sure it’s as bloody as it gets in a 30-second clip), but also because the tempo is so different from what you’d anticipate from a cannibal thriller, Feed Me’s teaser trailer will have you hooked to the screen.
It has a wild, exciting vibe and moves at a breakneck rate. Samantha Loxley (The Night Comes for Us), Christopher Mulvin (Lore), Hannah Al Rashid (The Point of No Return), and Neal Ward (The Point of No Return) round out the stellar group (Election Night). Adam Leader and Richard Oakes, who directed the upcoming film Hosts in 2020, are also responsible for the script and direction of Feed Me. Leader and Oakes released a statement detailing the creation of Feed Me, revealing that they created a “no holds barred” philosophy for the film’s script and direction. “Feed Me” stands on its own as a distinct picture. It’s a reflection of who we are as a team and how we like to tell stories, with a tragic narrative of loss, heartbreak, and self-loathing underlain with layers of weird, batshit-crazy horror and a light dusting of humour.
We set out to convey our narrative honestly, uninhibited by concerns about how it might be received by others. Its overarching ideas and sophisticated nature reflect, to a certain extent, our own approach as filmmakers. We can’t wait to show the world the cinematic aesthetic we’ve been developing with ‘Feed Me,’ and we hope to keep making films in this vein for a long time to come. James Emanuel Shapiro, executive vice president of US distribution for XYZ Films, gave his thoughts on the film’s tone and let slip that, if you’re anything like him, you’ll want to see it more than once: Really, ‘Feed Me’ blew me away. I’ve probably seen this movie 10 times since I originally saw it because it’s so much fun. This is a horror movie for true masochists like me. I haven’t enjoyed a horror film so much since ‘Drag Me to Hell.’ The story here isn’t about loss and the meaning of life or anything like that, and neither is it a horror film. The thrills, laughter, and screams in ‘Feed Me’ are nonstop, and the film brings plenty of blood and filth to the table. This was a must-have Halloween release for me. It’s time to eat!
The Los Angeles film festival Beyond Fest will host the world premiere of Feed Me in advance of its wider release later this year. Then, on October 27, it will be available for the first time on all digital and on-demand services. Along with the rest of Beyond Fest’s terrifying lineup, Feed Me will be shown there as well.
Synopsis
In “Feed Me,” portrayed by Mulvin, the main character, Jed, is devastated by the abrupt death of his wife, played by Loxley, and he blames himself. As his despair deepens, he meets the crazy cannibal Lionel Flack (Ward, in a star-making performance) at a pub. Flack tells him that he may atone for his sins by voluntarily being eaten alive.
