Now that San Diego Comic-Con and Disney’s D23 have come and gone, Marvel fans are eager for updates on the studio’s most highly anticipated Phase 5 films. Marvel president Kevin Fiege made several casting announcements at this weekend’s Marvel Studios Showcase panel. These included the cast joining Anthony Mackie in the fourth Captain America movie, Captain America: New World Order, which will be Mackie’s first feature-length flight as Captain America following the events of The Falcon and the Winter Solder.
Own Christina Raddish met up with the film’s director, Julius Onah, in the press line after the panel and asked him an urgent question regarding the film. When will production begin on Captain America 4: New World Order? Since the fourth Captain America picture is scheduled for release on May 3, 2024, it seems obvious that production would begin shortly, and indeed, Onah has confirmed that filming would commence at the beginning of the next year. “We’re already fairly busy, getting everything together. As you know with these films, there are so many components, between the cast and the screenplay and the effects and the stunts.
It’s really thrilling to be really digging deep into it,” he said of the pre-production process. Both Dolan Musson and Malcolm Spellman, who wrote the script for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, are set to return for this project. And they won’t be the only ones coming back for the second season of the Disney+ show. When Sam Wilson takes over as Captain America, Joaquin Torres, played by Danny Ramirez, will be next in line to become the Falcon. Isaiah Bradley, played by Carl Lumbly, is back, too.
Tim Nelson Blake, repeating his role as the villain in The Incredible Hulk, and Shira Haas, as Sabra, are two of the film’s new cast members. While most of the film’s narrative remains under wraps, Onah did imply that Captain America: New World Order will be a paranoia-filled thriller, continuing the MCU’s trend of switching genres to stay fresh in the face of superhero weariness. Little is known at this time, although it appears that Sam Wilson’s Captain America will be pitted against The Leader. The filming of Captain America: New World Order will begin in early 2023, while the release date is set for May 3, 2024.
