A holiday poster for the series was also released just in time for the holidays, delighting Disney fans everywhere. With this, we get a fresh glimpse at Santa Claus, aka Tim Allen’s Scott Calvin, on his comeback. The poster depicts Allen as Santa Claus, dressed in a red and white outfit identical to the one he wore in the original film trilogy, as he stands proudly in a corridor lined with candy canes.
A clue to Santa’s development in the show is that his beard is noticeably shorter than normal. The poster’s catchphrase says jokingly, “Still Kringle and ready to jingle.” Scott will step down as Santa Claus and begin searching for a successor in the upcoming season of The Santa Clauses. Santa interviews former NFL great Payton Manning for the position in a humorous teaser published at D23. Elizabeth Mitchell and David Krumholtz reprised their roles as Santa and Mrs Claus, and the film also featured new glimpses of the reappearance of the elf Bernard. Released in 1994, The Santa Clause became an instant classic because of its nuanced treatment of the holiday season. It was festive, but it did a good job of showing how the holidays can drive a wedge between separated loved ones. The latter is a topic rarely explored in holiday films.
The original was unexpectedly dark and disturbing even by Disney’s standards, and it was also hilarious, endearing, and emotionally resonant. Both of its successors had very different approaches, which were both good and bad. The Santa Clause 2 is, nonetheless, among the best romantic comedies that nobody ever saw. Especially those who saw the show as children and are now raising their own kids. On November 16, the first two of The Santa Clauses’ six episodes will air, marking the return of Allen’s take on Santa Claus.
