Release Date for Disney’s Live-Action “Snow White” Remake

Disney’s live-action re-imagining of Snow White announced during this year’s D23 expo and confirmed in a tweet from the official Walt Disney Studios Twitter account, is now anticipated to appear in 2024. Rachel Zegler, who most recently acted in West Side Story, will portray the title character opposite Gal Gadot, who will play the Evil Queen, a dramatic contrast to her heroic performance in Wonder Woman. Andrew Burnap (The Inheritance) will play Jonathan, a new character who wasn’t in the first film. Martin Klebba, who is most known for his role as Marty the Pirate in Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, will also feature in the film as Grumpy.

The screenplay for Snow White was written by Greta Gerwig (Lady Bird) and Erin Cressida Wilson and will be directed by Marc Webb (who previously directed The Amazing Spider-Man flicks) (The Girl on the Train). There have been no announcements regarding the film, but it is safe to assume that it will follow the same plot beats as the original film while also adding its own modern spin to appeal to modern viewers. It will be fascinating to watch how Disney’s return to their first picture in the live-action arena differs from the iconic animated feature and how it relates to current viewers. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, the first full-length animated picture in history, is still a staple of the Disney canon. It set the stage for countless other beloved animated features to come.

Snow White, although having been released all the way back in 1937, is still a vital figure in Disney’s roster, appearing in many attractions and other media. Disney’s Snow White has been a huge success throughout the world, and with a live-action picture in the works, her influence is about to grow even further. The movie hasn’t even been released yet, and viewers will have to wait another two years to watch it. Nonetheless, viewers may look forward to the upcoming releases of additional live-action remakes such as Peter & Wendy, which will premiere on Disney+ in 2023, and The Little Mermaid, which will splash into theatres on May 26, 2023. Snow White is scheduled for release in 2024, but production is still ongoing.
