At the 2022 Toronto International Film Festival, where the film had its global debut before its broader broadcast on the Roku channel on November 4, Perri Nemiroff got the opportunity to interview the actors of Weird: The Al Yankovic Story. After interviewing Daniel Radcliffe, Nemiroff praised the “amazing” Everything, Everywhere, All at Once, written and directed by Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, and asked the star what he thought of the film’s success and early Oscar buzz. Along with Paul Dano and Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Radcliffe appeared in the 2016 black comedy Swiss Army Man, which was directed by the Daniels (Kwan and Scheinert).
Radcliffe, in response to Nemiroff’s inquiry on the movie’s chances at the Oscars, said: However, in my opinion,… It would be foolish to dismiss the achievements of the picture or the insanity of its concepts and plot twists. It’s also amusing, touching, enjoyable, and a joy to read throughout. The film is the greatest one I’ve watched in a long time. I think it should be accessible to everyone. Oh, and that’s right. Because of this, I feel… In a strange twist of fate, the directors of one of my all-time favourite movies are now friends of mine. To put it simply, it is extremely… The situation is uncomfortable to a minor degree. There’s a strangeness about admitting it to them, but it’s true. Simply amazing.
Everyone, not just Radcliffe, has been raving about Everything, Everywhere, All At Once, calling it one of the greatest and most imaginative movies of the year, if not of all time. This is A24’s first picture to gross over $100 million globally. The film’s depiction of minorities, as well as its innovative and stylish presentation and emotionally impactful tale, have garnered widespread acclaim. Ross Bonaime, in his review for the film, gave it an A- and said, “It’s uncommon that a picture crams as much into it as this one does, yet without seeming bloated or ludicrous for the purpose of being bold.”
The film now has a 95% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Everything, Everywhere, All At Once is one of the most audacious and gutsy movies in recent memory, if not all time. On September 8 at TIFF 2022, the world premiere of Weird: The Al Yankovic Story took place, and on November 4 it will be available for free on the Roku channel.
