Deadline reports that Shakira Barrera, renowned for her roles in programmes including GLOW, has joined the cast of Marvel Studios’ Ironheart. Her character’s backstory and other plot points in the programme have not yet been discussed. Barrera has joined the cast of the show, which stars Dominique Thorne as genius inventor Riri Williams, who creates her own armour. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will be her debut film appearance. Anthony Ramos, who will also appear in Transformers: Rise of the Beasts in an unspecified capacity next year, will join stars like America Ferrera and Bella Thorne in Ironheart. The cast also includes Manny Montana (Graceland), Regan Aliyah (BF for Hire), Shea CouleĆ© (RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars), and Zoe Terakes (who played Leia Organa in the prequel film) (Nine Perfect Strangers).
As the premiere date of the series draws near, more details will most likely be unveiled. Ryan Coogler, director of the groundbreaking film Black Panther and its upcoming sequel, will serve as executive producer of the series, which will be helmed by Sam Bailey (You’re So Talented) and Angela Barnes (Blindspotting). Executive producers for Ironheart include Brad Winderbaum, Sev Ohanian, Zoie Nagelhout, and Chinaka Hodge, as well as the show’s director, Ryan Coogler; Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige; Louis D’Esposito; Zinzi Coogler; and Victoria Alonso. Barrera can now be seen in the Freevee original comedy series Sprung, which premiered back in August.
She had a small role as Agent King on another Marvel series, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. She will also have a role in The Knocking, a horror film directed by Matt Leslie and Stephen J. Smith, which will be released around the same time as Ironheart. Among the many Marvel Studios series in production for Disney+ is Ironheart. As for the upcoming series, keep an eye out for Secret Invasion, which will include the return of Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury and Ben Mendelsohn as the Skrull Talos. Along with the unnamed Halloween Special and the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, among many others, production has begun on Echo, starring Alaqua Cox as the eponymous heroine who originally debuted in Hawkeye.
During this year’s D23 expo, which opens on September 9, we may expect to learn more about new films and television shows from Marvel Studios. Ironheart has yet to get a release date because the series is currently in production. However, its release is pushed out to the latter half of 2023.
