In honour of Disney+ Day, the Mickey Mouse streaming service has introduced a number of brands’ new, highly anticipated shows and movies. The streaming service debuted Thor: Love and Thunder, the newest film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, among other highly anticipated new releases including the live-action Pinocchio remake. Along with the new film comes a new episode of Marvel Studios Assembled, a documentary series that provides behind-the-scenes looks at all Marvel films and television shows. The clip verifies what we already knew: filmmaker and fellow actor Taika Waititi was a hit with the cast and crew during downtime. In 2017, the director had a role in “rebranding” the Thor franchise by eliminating its darker elements and replacing them with a more colourful, joyful, and campy tone.
Thor: Ragnarok made over $850 million globally, whereas Thor: Love and Thunder made over $750 million, proving that the course correction was successful. According to a recent interviewee, Thor has become the MCU’s longest-running franchise, and all signs suggest that this trend will continue well beyond Marvel’s Phase 5 — especially since the latest film reintroduced Natalie Portman as The Mighty Thor. The documentary episode has interviews with Portman, who says, “it seems extremely satisfying to get to come back with a whole new perspective on the same environment.”
Love and Lightning in Thor cast Chris Pratt as Peter Quill/Star-Lord, Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer, Pom Klementieff as Mantis, Karen Gillan as Nebula, Vin Diesel as the voice of Groot, Bradley Cooper as the voice of Rocket, and more. Zeus, the Greek God of Thunder, was Russell Crowe’s first role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, while Christian Bale was the supervillain, Gorr. Marvel Studios Assembled, which premiered on Disney+ last year, releases new episodes whenever a new Marvel film is added to the library or whenever a Marvel television series concludes its run. The series has explored the making of such films as WandaVision, Loki, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and countless others.
Synopsis
In “Thor: Love and Thunder,” the God of Thunder (Chris Hemsworth) goes on a quest unlike any he’s ever been on before: a quest of self-discovery. In spite of his best efforts, his mission is sidetracked by Christian Bale’s Gorr the God Butcher, a space-faring murderer bent on wiping out the divine. Thor enlists the aid of King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi), and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who, to Thor’s consternation, for some reason wields Mjolnir, his mystical hammer, as the Mighty Thor. They set off on a dangerous intergalactic journey together to figure out the reason for the God Butcher’s fury and put a stop to it.
