Warner Bros. and IMAX have revealed that Olivia Wilde’s Don’t Worry Darling has been their fastest-selling IMAX Live event ever. More than 13,000 tickets were sold in over a hundred North American IMAX theatres in less than 24 hours, as stated in the announcement. The forthcoming psychological thriller, Don’t Worry Darling, will be previewed in IMAX as part of the Don’t Worry Darling: The IMAX Live Experience. Markets like Los Angeles, Chicago, Houston, and Seattle, among others, have sold out of tickets for the live webcast from New York. Harry Styles, Gemma Chan, Nick Kroll, Sydney Chandler, Kate Berlant, Asif Ali, and Douglas Smith, among others, will take part in an exclusive IMAX Live Q&A with fans alongside producer-director Wilde. Recently, during the Venice Film Festival, the international premiere of the psychological thriller was held.
Despite being at the centre of considerable tabloid controversy due to Shia LaBeouf’s casting blunder and main star Florence Pugh’s absence from promotional events, the film’s direction and performances were rewarded with a standing ovation that lasted for more than five minutes at the festival. Pugh, who was nominated for an Academy Award for her performance as Alice in the 1950s film, plays a housewife who appears to be living in the utopian community of Victory, an experimental company town dwelling.
In the film, Chris Pine’s character, Frank, creates the utopian desert refuge and exercises complete control over every aspect of the residents’ everyday lives; Styles plays Jack, her husband, who works on the “development of innovative materials” for the Victory Project. When Alice starts to investigate what’s going on around her, she discovers that the situation is rapidly deteriorating because something evil is occurring behind the scenes.
Katie Silberman, with whom Wilde worked on his directorial debut, Booksmart, scripted Don’t Worry Darling.
The film’s impressive cast and crew have led to early buzz at film festivals, and the sold-out IMAX premiere suggests that audiences will respond positively when it finally hits theatres later this year. Trailers have been promising a lot of crazy action and a dramatic, convoluted plot, so audiences should be on the edge of their seats. On September 19, before its international release on September 23, you may catch an IMAX screening of “Don’t Worry, Darling.” Tickets may still be available at the theatre of your choice by checking the IMAX box office’s website.
