Reports from geek news site Cinelinx have confirmed the casting of Eman Esfandi as the mysterious Jedi Ezra Bridger in the upcoming Disney+ series Ahsoka. Together with series actress Rosario Dawson, he will carry on the story of Ahsoka Tano, Anakin Skywalker’s former apprentice, who was last seen in an episode of The Book of Boba Fett. Fans of the Star Wars franchise have been hoping for years for Esfandi to be cast as Ahsoka, and his appearance in 2021’s King Richard was his most recent film role. In the animated series Star Wars: Rebels, the character had just launched himself into uncharted territory aboard an Imperial cruiser in an effort to rescue the Ghost’s crew.
His subsequent whereabouts are unknown by canonical means. In Season 2 of The Mandalorian, Ahsoka Tano made her live-action debut when she helped Din Djarin (Pedro Pacal/Brendan Wayne) locate a Jedi to train Grogu. Ahsoka had other things on her mind, including finding Grand Admiral Thrawn, who vanished with Ezra Bridger in the Star Wars: Rebels season finale. It is hoped that the series would unite fans of the source material, both new and old. In Ahsoka, Hayden Christensen will play Anakin Skywalker for the first time in live-action following his return to the Star Wars universe this week as Obi-Wan Kenobi.
They shared the screen together in the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars, where Ashley Eckstein and Matt Lanter voiced the two characters. Also making the transition from animated to live-action is Sabine Wren, who made her debut in Rebels and will be portrayed by Natasha Liu Bordizzo. The closeness of her and Ezra’s relationship makes it a safe assumption that she will accompany Ahsoka on her search for Thrawn, provided that is, in fact, their goal.
Others who have been cast in mysterious roles include Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Ivanna Sakhno, and Ray Stevenson. So yes, all that has been revealed about Stevenson’s role is that he is a “villainous admiral.” Since the show is now under development, we should soon learn their character roles. In 2023, Ahsoka will join the cast of Disney+.
