As announced by the film’s official Twitter account, tomorrow will see the release of the first trailer for Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, directed by Rian Johnson. A video depicting a sliding puzzle that, when completed, reveals the name of the film, is announced with the apropos phrase, “Nothing is ever as it appears.” With a fresh unsolved crime taking place in Greece, the sequel to 2019’s Knives Out will see Daniel Craig reprise his role as the world-famous private investigator Benoit Blanc with an all-new cast and a new location.
Stars like Chris Evans, Ana de Armas, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Toni Collette were featured in the previous film, but this new one will include an all-star ensemble including Dave Bautista, Kathryn Hahn, Edward Norton, Janelle Monáe, Leslie Odom Jr., and Kate Hudson.
Fans should expect a murder mystery in the vein of Agatha Christie, however, we don’t know much about the specifics of the narrative. In this role, Norton portrays digital disruptor Miles Bron, who takes his loved ones on a vacation to Greece. Hudson plays a fashion designer named Birdie Jay, while Hahn plays the governor of Connecticut, Claire Debella.
Jessica Henwick will portray Birdie Jay’s assistant, Peg. Duke Cody, a popular YouTuber, will be played by Bautista, and Whiskey, played by Madelyn Cline. The younger Odom Jr. portrays the scientist, Lionel Toussaint, while the older Monáe plays a tech entrepreneur. With such a stellar cast at his disposal, Blanc is bound to go on a killing spree in his pursuit of the murderer, and his audience will be right there with him. The original film was a commercial and critical triumph, earning Johnson an Oscar nod for Best Original Screenplay at the 92nd ceremony. This is why the director signed a three-film contract with Netflix: the sequel is anticipated.
In spite of the fact that production on Knives Out 3 has not yet commenced, Johnson has the script completed. The global premiere of Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery will take place at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival. On December 23, the movie will be released in theatres and made available on Netflix throughout the world.
