Black Adam, a DC Comics superhero, is one of the most anticipated films of the fall season. In anticipation of the premiere of the second trailer for the anti-hero epic starring Dwayne Johnson on Thursday, Warner Brothers have published a rousing new poster for the film.
Only Johnson, the former WWE superstar, could have pulled off this picture of Black Adam hovering over the DC Universe with a threatening glare. With him at the helm is the Justice Society of America, which will be seen for the first time on the big screen. Adam Smasher (Noah Centineo), Doctor Fate (Pierce Brosnan), Hawkman (Aldis Hodge), and Cyclone (Quintessa Swindell) are prepared for their close-up.
The posters also include Sarah Shahi’s Isis and Bodhi Sabongui’s Amon. The accompanying phrase, “Power Born From Rage,” is chilling. Black Adam’s narrative is still shrouded in mystery, but we do know that the legendary antihero will be at odds with the Justice Society of America (JSA). This is the first time we’ve seen major characters like Hawkman on the big screen, despite the JSA’s frequent appearances on television shows like Justice League Unlimited, Smallville, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, and Stargirl. More than 20 years before the more well-known Justice League, this superhero squad has been around.
That’s why their participation is so thrilling, and watching A-listers like Hodge and Brosnan bring this squad to life is a dream come true for any DC Comics fan. This isn’t the first time we’ve seen the JSA dressed up, but this poster is just another reminder of how striking they look, especially Hawkman. DC successfully captured the essence of the old character while adding some good modern changes that make Hodge’s version of this hero a force to be reckoned with, despite the character’s big wings and Hawk-mask, which could have easily made the hero seem comical on screen. WB has been acting quite strangely as of late, especially in regard to the future of DC.
But Black Adam seems to be the positive news that this studio so sorely needs right now. Even though Johnson has been trying to make Black Adam for the past decade, the actor has wasted no time in promoting the picture. Now that there is less than a month until Black Adam’s release, promotion for the picture is picking up steam. Johnson made an appearance at a test showing of the film, which was met with enthusiastic applause. There will soon be a shift in the DCEU’s power structure, and viewers will be eager to see how that plays out in the next teaser. More conflict between the JSA and Black Adam is to be anticipated, and it should become clear who the film’s primary antagonist is.
The McFarlane Toy line for Black Adam was the first to suggest that lesser-known DC villain Sabbac will be appearing in the film, but until now, no solid hints have been given as to who the major evil would be. So far, all we have seen of him is his toy representation. The antagonist, though, is expected to play a significant role in the next teaser. The second Black Adam teaser will premiere on Thursday, September 8 at 8 PM ET, just a few days before Johnson and the rest of the JSA make their DCEU debut on October 21.
