Significant Other, a brand new sci-fi thriller, will be available on streaming services on October 7th, and Paramount+ has just published a teaser for the film. In Significant Other, Jake Lacy plays Harry, a young man who meets and falls in love with Ruth (also a young woman) (Maika Monroe). A young couple chooses to go on a hiking trip through the wilderness in the Pacific Northwest, but their vacation rapidly goes worse when they realise they are not alone there. The new 2-minute teaser shows Ruth, bloodied and battered, being discovered by two strangers in the woods. She claims she has no recollection of the incident when they try to question her upon their return to the campsite.
We get a glimpse inside her excursion with Harry as she’s asked about it, and it includes the two of them finding what looks like an alien artefact in a cave in the middle of the woods. The trek that turned into a nightmare is depicted in a montage with numerous brief scenes, including what looks to be the creation of a doppelgänger of Ruth and what appears to be Harry’s fall from a cliff. At the end of the trailer, Ruth tells Harry, “I haven’t been feeling like myself,” with the words “like myself” slowly warping each time. In 2021, Paramount Players won a competitive bidding process for the film’s distribution rights as part of the studio’s strategy to increase the production of relevant horror and thriller films.
Dan Berk and Robert Olsen, who previously helmed the thrillers Body and Villains (the latter of which also starred Monroe), are writing and directing the picture. In addition to Berk and Olsen, the film also features producers Dan Kagan and executive producers Dana Fainaru and Hamish Wright, as well as the film’s cast. On October 7th, Significant Other will debut in a Paramount+ exclusive. On October 6 at 6:30 PM, the film will have its international debut at New York Comic Con in Room 401 of the Javits Convention Center. There will be a post-screening Q&A with the director and stars of this high-concept thriller.
