David Ramsey,’ Discusses John Diggle’s Potential Green Lantern Career

There’s hope for John Diggle’s Emerald Knight career yet. David Ramsey discussed Diggle’s potential Green Lantern future at DragonCon (via The Direct). Diggle’s origin in the Arrowverse is Oliver Queen’s (Stephen Amell) bodyguard, but he eventually becomes an ally in Oliver’s mission to defend Starling City (which later became Star City). Diggle started dressing like a Spartan in the fourth season of the programme. At one point in Season 6, he even stepped in for Oliver as Green Arrow. In the series finale of Arrow, Diggle discovered a box with a green light, which was strongly implied to be a Green Lantern ring. Diggle has made cameo appearances in subsequent seasons of various Arrowverse shows, and in each of those episodes, he has brought up his discovery of the glowing box.

There was a sense of closure to the tale in an episode of Season 8 of The Flash when Diggle decided to remain on Earth and the box vanished. At DragonCon, though, Ramsay teased that Superman & Lois may one day expand Diggle’s Green Lantern saga outside the Arrowverse. “This issue is still open. I got a call from The Flash showrunner Eric Wallace, who had an idea to wrap out the Green Lantern arc in the Arrowverse “and Ramsey continued: “And you know he did it because he felt the end of the Arrowverse was near, right? Flash is the last of the series, and without him, everything else would stop. To add insult to injury, I knew that Todd [Helbing] was going to disclose in Superman & Lois that the Superman & Lois-verse, if you will, live on another planet on another Earth, and these people are still alive, but you didn’t know that at the time.”

The second season finale of Superman & Lois established that their planet existed apart from the Arrowverse and that Superman (Tyler Hoechlin) was the sole superhero there. A previous incarnation of John Diggle, played by Ramsey, has also made an appearance on Superman & Lois. Ramsey also discussed the series’ separation from the Arrowverse at DragonCon. According to him, “it was clever because it allows us to flourish outside of the Arrowverse,” something they weren’t permitted to do before. “Therefore, the ring is still in circulation, answering your query. It’s real, it’s been rejected in Superman & Lois just like it was in the Arrowverse, but [John Diggle] didn’t have to go through it.”

A new season of The Flash and Superman & Lois will premiere on The CW that same year (2023).
