SYFY’s Bring It On: Cheer or Die, an unexpected sequel, has finally released its first official photos. Bring It On: The Movie is the first horror film in the popular cheerleading story, which is now number seven instalments. There will be a slasher element to the picture, with the plot revolving around a group of high school cheerleaders who decide to rehearse their routines in a deserted school and start to meet grisly ends. Karen Lam directs the film starring Missi Pyle, Kerri Medders, and Tiera Skovbye. Cheer or Die looks like it follows in the footsteps of the other Bring It On films based on the first look shots, but there is some dark lighting and a little sad mood in parts of the photos.
There are three photographs total; two of them show what appears to be a cheer routine from the Bring It On film series, and the third shows what appears to be the two main protagonists, two young women. One has the comedienne Pyle as an irate principal, while the other two have the main heroine who has an air of “last girl.” In one, our protagonist—likely a girl—looks tense on a moving bus, while in the other, she brandishes a deadly weapon in the middle of ominous blue light. Writers Rebekah McKendry and Dana Schwartz adapted a screenplay by Bring It On series veteran Alyson Fouse for their film Bring It On: Cheer or Die. Griff Furst, Tony Gonzalez, and C. Eve Stewart is the producer of the impending horror sequel.
Returning as the film’s head choreographer is Gonzalez, who has previously worked on multiple Bring It On movies. Glenn Ross, general manager & executive vice president of Universal 1440 Entertainment, recently commented on the forthcoming sequel, stating,
In a statement, SYFY said, “We are pleased to work up with SYFY to continue this ever-popular franchise with an all-new edition from acclaimed filmmaker Karen Lam, the very first female director of the film series. Fans of the previous comic films in the Bring It On franchise will love this new chapter, and the brand as a whole will attract new viewers who prefer thrillers. Released in theatres in 2000, the original version of Bring It On stars Kirsten Dunst, Eliza Dushku, and Gabrielle Union.
The picture was initially a box office smash, topping the charts for two weeks in a row. The film’s success generated a slew of spinoffs, all of which were released on home video: Bring It On Again, Bring It On: All or Nothing, Bring It On: In It to Win It, Bring It On: Fight to the Finish, and Bring It On: Worldwide Cheersmack. This fall, SYFY will debut Bring It On: Cheer or Die.
