Jagged Edge Productions has recently published the first official trailer for their upcoming odd and surprising horror film Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey. The film may exist since the well-known figure entered the public domain earlier this year; it will follow a twisted version of Winnie the Pooh and Piglet as they exact revenge on Christopher Robin and his buddies for abandoning them. Rhys Frake-Waterfield wrote and directed Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey, which featured Craig David Dowsett and Chris Cordell as the two main antagonists, Pooh Bear and Piglet, respectively.
Additional cast members include Amber Doig-Thorne, Maria Taylor, and Danielle Scott. Frake-Waterfield told Variety that, “Because of all the press and whatnot, we’re basically going to start accelerating the cut and getting it through post-production as quickly as we can.” Even though the film does not yet have a set release date, this may change soon. Nonetheless, checking to see whether it’s still edible. We plan to make this a top priority.
As the trailer begins, an adult Christopher Robin and his fiancée enter the Hundred Acre Woods, the same place he and his childhood friends Pooh and Piglet used to play.
But when Christopher revisits their abandoned home, he discovers Pooh and Piglet have gone wild. In the next scenes, Christopher’s friends arrive at his house for a party, only to find themselves victims of a massacre at the hands of enraged mutant animals. The teaser suggests the film will have a hardcore slasher vibe, typical of the 2000s, but with an absurdist setup. Still, given the film’s premise, it’s remarkable that it plays it so straight throughout. Despite the fact that copyright has been removed from Winnie the Pooh and Piglet, other characters from the original Winnie the Pooh stories, such as Tigger, remain protected.
Even though Pooh Bear and Piglet are the only two recognisable Disney characters in this video, there is a piece of cardboard with the words “Eeyore R.I.P.” written on it. Frake-Waterfield elaborated on the inspirations behind his interpretations of the classic characters, adding, “Christopher Robin has pushed away from them, and he’s not [given] them food, it’s made Pooh and Piglet’s existence extremely miserable. They’ve had to fend for themselves for so long that they’ve developed a wild nature. That means they’re acting more like animals again. They’re no longer domesticated; instead, they behave more like a bear and pig looking for food. The release date for Winnie the Pooh & the Search for Blood and Honey is set for later in 2016.
