Shadow Force, a forthcoming action thriller from Lionsgate, has begun shooting in Colombia under the direction of Joe Carnahan, and the studio has just revealed the film’s expanded ensemble. Mark Strong, Marvin “Krondon” Jones III, Natalia Reyes, Yoson An, & Ed Quinn round out the ensemble alongside Kerry Washington and Omar Sy. Some of the previously revealed cast members are Da’Vine Joy Randolph and Cliff “Method Man” Smith.
Starring Washington and Sy, the film follows the disgraced former leaders of a covert special forces unit as they flee into hiding after breaching the rules and falling in love.
In order to hide their son from the furious Shadow Force that is pursuing them, the family must travel underground. Washington has starred in several films and on the ABC series Scandal. She is also well-known for her roles in Ray and Django Unchained. Through her Simpson Street brand, she also acts as a producer on Shadow Force alongside Pilar Savone. Lupin, which Sy just finished on Netflix, is one of the show’s most popular non-English series. A part in the critically acclaimed French drama The Intouchables catapulted him to fame and earned him a César Award. Strong has established himself as a fearsome rogues’ gallery of villains in films like Sherlock Holmes, Kick-Ass, Green Lantern, Shazam!, and Cruella, among others.
In recent months, he finished shooting the Netflix film Murder Mystery 2, which also featured Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston. Kamara, just six years old, has been acting professionally for two years, with roles in Disney+’s Rise and NBC’s Manifest. Krondon is recognised for his work on Black Lightning on The CW, whereas Reyes is recognised for his work on Terminator: Dark Fate. Carnahan has experience with both large and small-scale action films, having co-written the script for Shadow Force with Leon Chills.
After making his name in low-budget films like Narc and Smokin’ Aces, he finally made it big with the movie version of The A-Team. He has also directed the existential survival thriller The Grey, which is widely regarded as his finest work to date, and two action movies in quick succession last year: Boss Level, a film inspired by video games and starring his frequent collaborator Frank Grillo, and Copshop, a Tarantino-esque B-movie also starring Grillo and Gerard Butler. Before Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah took over the helm of Bad Boys for Life, Carnahan was set to helm the film. Shadow Force was able to secure a sizable tax credit under the CINA incentive (Audiovisual Investment Certificate), provided by the Colombian government and managed by Proimágenes Colombia, for shooting in the country. Washington, together with Stephen “Dr Love” Love and Sterling K. Brown, is also producing. The show’s executive producers are Katherine Atkinson, Danielle Reardon, and Jennifer Wiley-Stockton.
Synopsis
Shadow Force follows the exploits of a former international special forces unit headed by Kyrah (Washington) and Isaac (Sy). Due to the fact that they have broken the rules by falling in love, they have been forced to hide out in order to save their son. One family’s feud escalates into an all-out battle when they discover a substantial bounty has been placed on their heads & the vengeful Shadow Force is hard on their heels.
