In October, horror’s reigning monarch, Thomas Jane, will come back to kick butt once more. In Slayers, the debut film by filmmaker K. Asher Levin, Jane takes up the stake (or, more accurately, a crossbow) and proceeds to hack and slash his way through a house full of rabid, wealthy vampires. The fresh new R-rated teaser for the horror comedy teases gore and quips. When you’re out there, you either kill or you are killed. When it comes to killing vampires, age is of no concern. Unwillingly, the jaded vampire slayer Elliot Jones teams up with a gang of young, popular social media stars from Generation Z in the Netflix series Slayers (Jane). He’s been in this line of work for quite some time, and he intends to stay in it until the vampires who killed his daughter when she was a teenager are destroyed.
In order to reach the hidden lair where his daughter’s killers are hiding, Elliot has enlisted the help of the social media crew. After showing Elliot opening a drink, the film cuts to a sunny live stream where we meet the purposefully jovial ‘Stream Team.’ ‘Online social diva’ Jules (Abigail Breslin) and her pals are invited to “reclusive millionaire Beverly Rektor’s” (Malin Akerman) remote New Mexico vacation property in exchange for an ambassador contract. Elliot’s RV crosses paths with their party bus on the road, signalling impending danger for the characters. When professional gamer Flynn (Kara Hayward) is tempted by the promise of fame and wealth, Elliot is able to plant doubts in her mind before the Stream Team meets their generous host.
Things quickly devolve into chaos. In the preview, Akerman plays it cool as she lavishes praise and flattery on the actors just before all hell breaks loose. Jane is supported by a cast that includes the same actors that helped him defeat genetically enhanced sharks in 1999’s Deep Blue Sea and some of the most terrifying monsters from Stephen King’s The Mist. Jack Donnelly, Ashley Reyes (American Gods), Lydia Hearst, Galen Howard, Ash T. (Euphoria), and Adam Ambruso are among the actors who have worked with Akerman, Breslin (an Oscar nominee), and Hayward (Moonrise Kingdom).
Zack Imbrogno, who co-wrote the script for Slayers alongside filmmaker Levin, is making his feature film writing debut with this film. Stars Along with Jane and Akerman, Breslin is listed as a producer on the picture. On October 21, both physical theatres and VOD platforms will offer Slayers.
