Starbucks has brought back pumpkin spice lattes, Labor Day weekend is quickly approaching, and the highly anticipated sequel to Hocus Pocus is almost ready for its debut on Disney+. The film’s new poster, which appeared on Disney+ in anticipation of the film’s premiere, gives us a frightening new look at the Sanderson sisters’ return to Salem. On September 30th, Hocus Pocus 2 will premiere on Disney+ for the first time ever. The events of Hocus Pocus 2 take place 29 years after the events of the previous film, when a virgin once again makes the mistake of lighting the Black Flame Candle, therefore reviving the Sanderson sisters from the 17th century.
Three high school kids must prevent the sisters from wreaking havoc on their quiet New England town on All Hallow’s Eve when they are revived. An achievement worthy of three acting icons like the Sanderson sisters, all three of the original Sanderson sisters is returning to the production. The three sisters are featured prominently in the new promotional poster. Winifred Sanderson, portrayed by Bette Midler, is the eldest of the sisters and appears to be in the lead. She has two witch sisters who are both really miserable. Mary Sanderson, played by Kathy Najimy, stands to Sarah’s right, while Sarah Sanderson, portrayed by Sarah Jessica Parker, stands to her left and flashes her trademark crooked grin.
The poster depicts the three witches strolling through downtown Salem under a full moon, with hazy swirls of evil power around them. Winifred Sanderson appears to be inviting the spectator inside her pot by extending her hand. In addition to the Sanderson sisters, the film also features Sam Richardson, Doug Jones (who portrayed Billy Butcherson in the previous film), Whitney Peak, Belissa Escobedo, Lilia Buckingham, and Froy Gutierrez. Tony Hale from Veep and Hannah Waddingham from Ted Lasso both star in the movie. Anne Fletcher, who directed Dumplin and The Proposal, is at the helm of Hocus Pocus 2. Producer Lynn Harris is joined by executive producers Ralph Winter, David Kirschner, and Adam Shankman. One month from today, on September 30th, only on Disney+, Salem will be cursed by the Black Flame Candle.
