Dolby Cinema, in conjunction with The Cinema Foundation, has announced its participation in the next National Cinema Day. It’s a one-day event on September 3 with over 3,000 theatres and 30,000 screens set to participate, and the business has declared that all of its U.S. sites will be there. Tickets for all Dolby screenings will cost no more than $3, and certain theatre chains will offer additional discounts on refreshments, like AMC Theaters’ $5 Cameo Combo, for those who purchase tickets in advance online.
There will be sneak peeks of upcoming titles from some of the biggest studios in the world, including A24, Amazon Studios, Disney, Focus Features, Lionsgate, Neon, Paramount, Sony Pictures Classics, Sony, United Artists Releasing, Universal, and Warner Bros., in addition to the films currently playing in theatres. Bullet Train, Nope, Thor: Love and Thunder, Where the Crawdads Sing, and the ever-popular, record-breaking Top Gun: Maverick are just a few of the Dolby films currently playing in theatres. Other recent and forthcoming Dolby films include Smile, Don’t Worry Darling, and the theatrical re-releases of Avatar and Spider-Man: No Way Home, though not all of these films will be showing on National Cinema Day.
In March, a nonprofit organisation dedicated to “changing the future of the wonderful communal experience of moviegoing and the cinema business” was established as the Cinema Foundation. Supporting “future diversified workforces and rising moviegoing communities via research, education, and philanthropy,” the foundation works to ensure that cinema as an art form and the practice of going to the movies are sustainable in a post-pandemic society. The foundations expand on the missions and partnerships established by NATO, providing assistance to people and the industry as a whole to demonstrate the importance of cinema and the moviegoing experience to the fabric of our society.
