With its second season on the horizon, The Cleaning Lady is expanding its repertoire. The criminal drama series shines a light on drug abuse and the difficulties faced by illegal immigrants in gaining access to basic services like healthcare. According to Deadline, Naveen Andrews has been appointed as a series regular for the upcoming second season.
Robert Kamdar, Nadia’s sociable and charismatic ex-lover, will be portrayed by Andrews in the upcoming second season (Eva De Dominici).
Robert plans to use Arman’s (Adan Canto) impending loss of all he holds dear as an excuse to drive a gap between Nadia and him. Elodie Yung’s Thony is a Cambodian doctor who comes to the United States after learning that her kid has a terminal illness. As a result of her husband Marco’s gambling habit and his inability to obtain a visa, Thony is left to protect their kid alone. Thony’s kid receives the therapy he desperately needs, paid for by a criminal gang because she is coerced into becoming the group’s “cleaning lady.” When the show returns, Thony will be on the hunt for her stolen son.
If she can’t find the kid, she’ll turn to FBI Agent Garrett Miller for assistance (Oliver Hudson). Andrews has established himself as a reputable actor. His recent role in The Dropout on Hulu earned him critical acclaim, but he is best known for his work on Lost on ABC, for which he was nominated for both an Emmy and a Golden Globe. Some of the other films he has worked on are Once Upon a Time in Wonderland, Diana, Planet Terror, and The English Patient. The original series inspiration for The Cleaning Lady was the Argentine show La Chica Que Limpia. For the second season, Miranda Kwok served as executive producer alongside Melissa Carter and co-showrunner for the American adaption she helped create.
Shay Mitchell, David Dean Portelli, Rose Marie Vega, and Paola Suarez are also executive producers. Aside from Martha Millan, Sean Lew, Chelsea Frei, Jay Mohr, Sebastien and Valentino LeSalle, Liza Weil, and Shiva Negar also feature in the show. The Cleaning Lady returns for a second season on Fox on September 19 at 9 p.m.
