Stars from all of the Star Trek series have been honouring the magnificent franchise for days at 56-Year Mission Las Vegas, one of the largest fan events, presented by Creation Entertainment. In anticipation of next month’s Star Trek Day, where the cast and creatives are scheduled to reveal forthcoming release dates and preview the next year’s material, the special guests have been hinting at some of what’s to come in the currently showing episodes and dropping hints. More than a hundred celebrities, including William Shatner, George Takei, and Walter Koenig from the original series, Sonequa Martin-Green, Doug Jones, and Tig Notaro from Star Trek: Discovery, and Anson Mount, Rebecca Romijn, Ethan Peck, and Celia Rose Gooding from the recently premiered prequel series Strange New Worlds, will be in attendance.
Many original cast members from The Next Generation are here to promote the upcoming third and final season of Star Trek: Picard, which will air on Paramount+ sometime in 2019. Gates McFadden and Jonathan Frakes, for example, are among the guests of honour. Denise Crosby is present among her fellow TNG cast members. On the first season of the 1980s revival series, Crosby played Chief Security Officer Tasha Yar. In the first season episode “Skin of Evil,” the antagonist Armus kills the character off suddenly.
The character Sela, the grown-up daughter of a Tasha Yar from another universe, was featured in a few episodes toward the end of the show’s run. Tweeter TXTrek claims that Crosby told convention-goers, “You will see Tasha Yar, but I’m not going to tell you how,” when asked about the third season of Picard. Season 3’s villain is a new character, although it’s easy to believe it’s Sela since executive producer Alex Kurtzman announced at SDCC last month that the big evil is a woman. Given what Matalas has said and what Crosby has said, it will be fascinating to watch how the much-loved character of Tasha is brought back into play in the show’s last season.
Many viewers feel that Tasha’s untimely demise in the first season of TNG was a great mistake, and they hope that any tribute to the character would help them move on. Patrick Steward, Jeri Ryan, Michelle Hurd, Brent Spiner, Marina Sirtis, LeVar Burton, and Michael Dorn will all be back for Season 3 of Star Trek: Picard, along with series regulars George Crosby, Jonathan Frakes, and Gates McFadden. The release date for the last season has not been announced, although it seems probable that we will find out on September 8, Star Trek Day.
