Former Star Trek actor Danny Huston has joined the cast of the planned remake of the 1994 action fantasy thriller, The Crow. Huston joins FKA Twigs and Bill Skarsgard, who was also previously revealed. The new adaptation of The Crow, helmed by Rupert Sanders (Snow White and the Huntsman, Ghost in the Shell), reportedly began filming weeks ago in the Czech Republic. Both this new movie and the original from 1994 are based on James O’Barr’s comic book of the same name, which follows the vengeful soul of a slain man who is revived by a crow and sets out to get revenge for the deaths of both himself and his fiancĂ©e.
The role Huston will play in the remake of The Crow is still a mystery. The Crow was written by Zach Baylin, whose King Richard script was just nominated for an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay. It was produced by Edward R. Pressman, who also produced the original Crow picture, and by Molly Hassell, Victor Hadida, and John Jencks. The Crow, released in 1994, was an enormous financial and critical success, earning $94 million on a budget of only $23 million. However, the picture is probably most remembered for the tragedy that occurred during its filming.
The principal actor, Brandon Lee, son of the famed martial artist Bruce Lee, was tragically killed on March 31, 1993, when fake cartridges were used in place of blank shots during a filming sequence. Lee only had three days left of production before the disaster, so a body double was hired to complete the movie. After Lee’s passing, O’Barr admitted that he regretted ever creating the comic. Three sequels and a TV series were developed from The Crow. Among Huston’s most well-known cinematic roles include those in The Constant Gardener, The Aviator, 21 Grams, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and Wonder Woman. Huston’s TV credits include roles in Succussion and Yellowstone.
The upcoming films Marlowe and Across the River and Into the Trees will feature the actor. Huston is from a family of actors that also includes John Huston, Anjelica Huston, and Jack Huston, all of whom are renowned in their own right. The release date for The Crow has not yet been set.
