The makers of Coraline and Kubo and the Two Strings are already hard at work on their next Oscar-worthy animated feature. Not only did Laika reveal a new visual today, but they also revealed the very talented voice cast! Carey Mulligan, Mahershala Ali, Jacob Tremblay, and others will lend their voices to the forthcoming animated picture Wildwood. The children’s fantasy book series Wildwood by Colin Meloy and Carson Ellis will be the inspiration for the upcoming Netflix series Wildwood. The show centres on two kids who, while trying to save a baby from a murder of crows, stumble into a mysterious wood. This story device is depicted beautifully in the illustration, which depicts a youngster riding a bike in hopeless pursuit of a flock of crows who have stolen babies.
Chris Butler, who has written three previous films for the Laika company (ParaNorman, Kubo and the Two Strings, and Missing Link), has penned the film’s script. The studio only has five films under its belt, but it has already earned a reputation for assembling all-star voice casts, and this picture will be no exception. Peyton is expected to arrive in Wildwood to meet up with Mulligan, Ali, and Tremblay. Richard E. Grant, Tom Waits, Awkwafina, Angela Bassett, Jake Johnson, Charlie Day, Amandla Stenberg, Jemaine Clement, Maya Erskine, and Tantoo Cardinal. The talent included on that list is enough to thrill any lover of the book series or films in general, even if no announcements have been made about which characters they will be voicing in the film. Travis Knight, co-founder of Laika and director of Kubo and the Two Strings and Bumblebee, will helm the future feature. Knight said this of the actors: Working with such talented performers has been an honour and a source of great motivation. Their passionate portrayals of the characters in Wildwood are a huge boon to Laika’s animators. Amazing people, all of them. At this time, there is no set release date for Wildwood, which is presently in production at Laika Studios in Oregon.
