According to Deadline, Michael Showalter is in talks to direct a film version of Robinne Lee’s novel The Idea of You for Prime Video, featuring Academy Award winner Anne Hathaway in the lead role. It is anticipated that production will begin on the project by the end of October. Writer/executive producer Jennifer Westfeldt (The First Lady) is also responsible for the story and direction of the film The Idea of You. Little is known about the planned production, but the 2017 novel centred on Solène Marchand, a recently divorced mother who brings her daughter to see the boy band August Moon but finds herself developing feelings for one of the band members, Hayes Campbell. While it is still unclear how faithfully the film will stick to the source material, additional information will be made available when the shooting gets underway.
The Idea of You has an impressive cast, so viewers should be on the lookout for it when it is made available on Prime Video. Showalter had previously helmed the romantic comedy The Big Sick, which featured the acting and writing talents of Kumail Nanjiani (Eternals). Later, the picture was hailed by critics. The filmmaker also has another film, Spoiler Alert: The Hero Dies, due out in December from Focus Features. Hathaway’s portrayal in Les Misérables earned her the Academy Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role. In addition to her role in the next picture, she will also have a significant role in James Gray’s Armageddon Time, which will hit cinemas this autumn.
She is also scheduled to appear in Mothers’ Instinct, a psychological thriller film now in post-production, opposite Jessica Chastain. Aside from Hathaway and Somewhere Pictures, the next picture also features Welle Entertainment’s Cathy Schulman in a producing role. In addition to co-writing the screenplay alongside Showalter, Jordana Mollick, Gabrielle Union, Kian Gass, and Eric Hayes, Lee will also serve as a producer on the project. The Idea of You has not yet been given a release date because the film is still in pre-production.
