Deadline reports that Katherine Waterston will play the lead role in Benedict Cumberbatch and SunnyMarch’s post-apocalyptic thriller The End We Start From. Production on the project, which was announced in May at the Cannes festival, will begin this month.
London is flooded in The End We Start From because of an environmental disaster. A woman and her infant will be separated from the rest of their family and forced to try to find their way home in the chaos. Waterston, who will portray the character known as “O,” will co-star with Jodie Comer, who has won both a BAFTA and an Emmy for her work in primetime television.
Comer will play the mother who finds herself in the middle of the mayhem. The suspenseful movie was based on a novel by Megan Hunter that was published in 2017. We don’t know how far the adaptation will deviate from the source material, but with such a strong creative team on board, when The End We Start From is finally released, it may be worth checking out. In the Harry Potter prequel trilogy, Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore, Waterson played the role of Tina Goldstein. The World to Come, a historical romance starring Casey Affleck and Vanessa Kirby, was produced by Bleecker Street, and she earned well-deserved critical praise for her performance in it.
You may catch her in the forthcoming Paramount/Damien Chazelle epic, Babylon. Screenwriter Alice Birch (Normal People, Succession) turned Hunter’s story into a screenplay that will be directed by Mahalia Belo. Feature film creators Leah Clarke, Adam Ackland, Liza Marshall, Sophie Hunter, and Amy Jackson are all responsible for the film’s production. Three of the producers have already indicated how much they cared about the project. The ending of The End We Start From is where we always want to begin.
