Actor Simu Liu, who recently starred as the title character in Marvel Studios’ Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, has reportedly joined the cast of the upcoming Netflix film Atlas, playing the antagonist opposite Jennifer Lopez. In addition to Liu, Sterling K. Brown (This Is Us) and Abraham Popoola (Morbius) have joined the cast of the film in mysterious roles. Aron Eli Coleite has written the latest draught of the script, and Netflix has engaged Brad Peyton, whose previous films include Rampage and San Andreas, to direct. Atlas is said to revolve around a lady named Atlas who tries to battle against an artificial intelligence army that intends to kill humans, yet nothing is known about the roles that the group of actors will play.
In order to stop the ultimate threat to civilization, she will need the help of another AI as she confronts this grim future. As filming gets underway, more information about the movie will be made public. Since Liu is known for playing the heroic Shang-Chi in the MCU, the next movie in which he is cast as the villain might be a fun change of pace. In addition to Atlas, Liu is set to appear in the 2019 film Barbie as a second Ken to Ryan Gosling’s Ken. The actor will also be seen in forthcoming films like Andy Fickman’s One True Loves and Simon Cellan Jones’ Arthur the King.
Liu’s career is continuing to skyrocket, and he will soon be reprising his role as Shang-Chi in a sequel that is in the works. The forthcoming comedic flick Honk for Jesus will include Brown. There’s a new movie called Save Your Soul, and it’s being released in theatres and on Peacock on September 2. Popoola has starring roles in two forthcoming TV shows, The Rig and Extraordinary. With Peyton at the helm, Safehouse Pictures’ Atlas will be produced by Joby Harold and Tory Tunnell.
Along with Peyton, Jeff Fierson, Greg Berlanti, and Sarah Schechter, the film’s producers are Lopez, Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas, and Benny Medina. Courtney Baxter is attached as an executive producer, while Matt Schwartz is co-producing the movie. Since filming on the film has just begun, there is currently no scheduled premiere date.
