In addition to acting in and producing the highly anticipated sequel to Attack the Block, John Boyega has also been actively contributing to the story of Attack the Block 2. New information on Attack the Block 2 was disclosed by its actor John Boyega in an exclusive chat with Breaking’s Christina Radish. While his part as Finn in the Star Wars sequel trilogy was his first major film role, Boyega is a British actor who didn’t make his debut until Attack the Black in 2011. Boyega plays Moses, a gang leader who utilises his street smarts to help fight off an extraterrestrial invasion in this independent horror thriller.
Attack the Black uses Moses’s past to investigate real-world themes like gentrification and socioeconomic injustice, demonstrating how such inequalities may push young people into criminal activity. The film also has some of the most imaginative aliens ever seen in a movie. Ten years after the first release of Attack the Block, a follow-up picture was officially greenlit, with Boyega set to reprise his role as Moses and Joe Cornish returning to the director’s chair. The fact that Boyega was supposed to produce the sequel meant that he would have a hand in shaping the plot of Attack the Block 2.
Boyega explained his role in the script as follows when questioned. This procedure has been wonderful. It was I and Joe Cornish who originally offered the story. We’ve worked closely together to develop a plot that makes sense for Moses and the other characters, as well as the new characters that will be appearing in the sequel. Additionally, Joe and I each provide our own unique viewpoints on the writing process. London has undergone numerous transformations since the first film was released. We’re basically aiming to cover all of that ground and then some in this sequel to that wacky first film of ours. Boyega’s involvement in the plot development of Attack the Block 2 raises the game’s already high intrigue level.
Boyega’s portrayal of Moses is the film’s emotional core; while Cornish did a terrific job with the first movie, it’s great to see him given a larger part in the making of the sequel. When exactly will we be able to view it, though? When will filming for Attack the Block 2 start? Boyega enlightened us on this matter: Yes, we’re quite close. Progress is being made. We don’t want to rush the creative process by giving out release dates, therefore we won’t be telling anyone about them. The backbone of the plot is in place, but we’re currently in the lab making final adjustments. The importance of a good story cannot be overstated. Not for too much longer, though. I’ve provided them with drums to hasten things forward. If everything goes well, we’ll be making an official statement shortly about our plans to cause mayhem in and around London.
Also, Boyega talked about his return to the character of Moses, detailing how his preparation for the first film informed his approach to the sequel. With regards to the latter, Boyega has stated that the older version of Moses would appear in the sequel, indicating that we will learn what occurred following the tragic finale in which the young guy was jailed by the authorities despite saving everyone.
To paraphrase Boyega: If a film or character particularly sticks out in your mind, you’ll likely revisit it. Recently, I’ve reverted to using my previous form. I may review my old notes. On top of that, we dig up Joe’s pitch and the rest of the materials that comprised the Attack the Block bible from the time it took to make the first film, give them a good dusting, and go back to work. Now we need to give the character some age and find out where he is in the story.
When The Woman King premieres on September 16, Boyega will be seen in his next major role.
