Production on the Dominican Republic location of the adaptation of the 1989 cult classic action film Road House, starring Jake Gyllenhaal, has just expanded to include four more cast members. As reported by Deadline, the film also features JD Pardo, Joaquim de Almeida, and Kevin Carroll. Billy Magnussen, Lukas Gage, Hannah Love Lanier, Gbemisola Ikumelo, and Daniela Melchior are just some of the stars who have signed on to appear in Doug Liman’s version. UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor also makes his cinematic debut here. Gyllenhaal will play a former UFC fighter who gets a job as a bouncer at a rough-and-tumble roadhouse in the Florida Keys and quickly learns that not everything is as it appears in the tropical paradise.
Other roles in the film are currently being kept secret. The original 1989 film starring Patrick Swayze as James Dalton, a professional bouncer with a murky history hired by the proprietor of the Double Deuce club in Missouri and directed by Rowdy Herrington from a script by David Lee Henry and Hilary Henkin. Dalton makes enemies with Brad Wesley (Ben Gazzara), a local businessman who wants to take over the town, after firing a number of employees for theft and drug trafficking. A dark turn occurs when Wesley uses Dalton’s background to coerce him into working for him.
Kelly Lynch played Dalton’s love interest Elizabeth Clay in the first film, while Sam Elliott played Dalton’s buddy and ally Wade Garrett, and Kevin Tighe played Double Deuce owner Frank Tilghman. With Liman at the helm, we know the remake’s actors will provide a stellar performance. As Paxton Hall-Yoshida, Barnet gained fame in the critically acclaimed Netflix adolescent drama Never Have I Ever. He co-starred with Nina Dobrev in the Love Hard film for the streaming service. Actor De Almeida of Portugal has appeared in several films, including The Hitman’s Bodyguard, Our Brand Is Crisis, and Land of Dream.
TV shows he has worked on include Warrior Nun and Queen of the South on Netflix, as well as Apple TV+’s Now and Then. His upcoming film for Universal is called Fast X. Pardo is most known for his roles as Ezekiel “EZ” Reyes on Mayans M.C. and Jack Toretto in F9: The Fast and the Furious. Together with Chris Pratt, he can presently be seen in The Terminal List. John Murphy on The Leftovers on HBO and Alton Williams on Snowfall on FX are just two of Carroll’s most well-known roles. The Walking Dead, Blindspotting, Being John Malkovich, and Paid in Full are just a few of the films in which he has starred. Road House has not yet been given a release date.
