Everyone has preconceived notions about what a movie role Jesse Eisenberg will play when they hear his name attached to it. A shy, reserved, and squirmy thinker who may not be overly courteous but always makes his point heard thanks to his rapid-fire, flowery speech. He has portrayed a wide range of personalities, from likeable (in Zombieland) to despicable (in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice), and has given outstanding performances in films such as The Social Network, The Art of Self-Defense, The End of the Tour, and The Squid and the Whale. However, the Oscar nominee claims that Eisenberg’s next job is very different from anything we’ve seen him in before.
For his next film, he will be playing a sasquatch, therefore he is training to look the part. Eisenberg stated his desire to return to acting during an interview with Variety, where he was promoting his directorial debut feature film When You Finish Saving the World, which recently premiered at the Sarajevo Film Festival. He had a great experience directing, but he doesn’t want to do it forever; he’s already planning his next movie, in which he plays the role of Sasquatch. The actor said, “The next movie I’m shooting is the Zellner Brothers’; they’re just these fantastic directors who I’ve wanted to work with for a long time.” Though information about the film is scarce, Eisenberg was glad to boast about his preparation for this part with directors David and Nathan Zellner (famous for their work on Damsel and Kumiko, the Treasure Hunter):
Full body hair, makeup, and a lack of lip sync make me a convincing Sasquatch. My lines consist of a lot of grunting. My anticipation is through the roof [Laughs]. This picture seems like a radical change from the sort of roles Eisenberg has hitherto dominated on screen. It’s understandable why he’s eager to plunge into the unknown. It’ll give him a role that few would have pegged him for, and it might help him diversify his acting credentials in intriguing new directions as he moves into the next stage of his multifaceted career.
Currently, the Zellners are getting ready to film a science fiction film titled Alpha Gang, which will feature Jon Hamm, Sofia Boutella, Steven Yeun, Mackenzie Davis, and Nicholas Hoult. A dangerous extraterrestrial race’s plans to invade Earth are prevented by those pesky human feelings in this film.
Eisenberg may portray Sasquatch in an untitled film from these two directors, or he may play a different role in entirely another film. In addition to this future picture, Eisenberg is now writing, directing, and starring in A Real Pain, which also stars Kieran Culkin. There have been rumours that Eisenberg’s sophomore film will depict two cousins who have grown distant from one another and who travel to Poland to attend their grandmother’s funeral. The family decides to go on a Holocaust tour in order to learn more about their heritage. Filming is scheduled to begin in Warsaw, Poland in March 2023.
In addition, later in 2019, Eisenberg will feature in the FX miniseries Fleishman Is In Trouble, which is adapted on Taffy Brodesser-2019 Akner’s novel of the same name. In addition, Eisenberg has roles in two upcoming films, Mandrome and The Medusa. Needless to say, Eisenberg has been keeping himself rather busy as of late, and his willingness to try something new in this just-announced job is indicative of that. Following its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival, When You Finish Saving the World will have its official premiere sometime in 2018.
