Mark your calendars on September 8 if you’re one of the many who have been missing Obi-Wan Kenobi more than usual. As part of the much-anticipated Disney+ Day, a documentary on the making of Obi-Wan Kenobi called Obi-Wan Kenobi: A Jedi’s Return will make its world premiere on the service. Shown in the documentary’s teaser trailer are series regulars Ewan McGregor (Obi-Wan Kenobi), Hayden Christensen (Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader), and Moses Ingram (Third sister/Reva Sevander), as well as director and showrunner Deborah Chow, discussing the long road they took to bring the story to life.
The teaser closes with a shadow of breakout star Vivien Lyra Blair (Princess Leia Organa), sparking questions about whether or not the young actress will feature in the documentary.
McGregor and Christensen reprised their roles from the prequel trilogy, the flicks that introduced new audiences to the Star Wars universe and gave them their first memorable heroes and villains in the galaxy far, far away.
In addition to Obi-Wan Kenobi and Luke Skywalker, we were also introduced to Qui-Gon Jinn (Liam Neeson) at the conclusion of that film as well as Padmé Amidala (Natalie Portman), who didn’t actually appear on the programme but was definitely felt throughout. In May, during the Star Wars Celebration, thousands of fans got to see the first two episodes of Obi-Wan Kenobi for the first time, and the event was filmed for a documentary. McGregor, Christensen, Blair, Indira Varma, Jimmy Smits, Rupert Friend, Simone Kessel, O’Shea Jackson Jr., and Bonnie Piesse were among the series regulars in attendance for the premiere. Kumail Nanjiani, Sung Kang, and Joel Edgerton, who feature in the show, were noticeably absent from the premiere.
The development of Obi-Wan Kenobi: A Jedi’s Return is the most recent entry in a series of videos released by Disney+ that explore the creation of the Star Wars franchise. You may be excused for mistaking A Jedi’s Return for a short film, a bonus episode, or even an announcement of Season 2 considering the fact that both The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett received “Disney Gallery” specials. Always have faith, for hope never dies. Fans have been waiting for this documentary since the series finale in June, so its release on Disney’s streaming service day makes perfect sense. Thor: Love & Thunder and its making-of documentary Assembled: The Making of Thor: Love & Thunder are just two of the numerous items coming to Disney+ on Day One. New Simpsons short “Welcome to the Club” and sing-along versions of “Frozen” and “Frozen 2” will also be released on that day.
The Disney+ premiere of Obi-Wan Kenobi: A Jedi’s Return is set for September 8.
