The actors who bring The Boys’ popular characters to life have returned to Toronto as production on the show’s second season gets underway. Although it was announced halfway through Season 3 that the show had been picked up for a fourth season, specifics regarding the forthcoming season have mostly been kept under wraps, until now. The Season 3 finale dished up an engrossing finish that left fans craving more. Both showrunner Eric Kripke and Antony Starr, who portrays the wicked Homelander, have teased that production has begun on the fourth season.
If you needed more proof that the show will return, Kripke has now provided a snapshot of the screenplay for the forthcoming season. Kripke posted a picture of the cover of the script on Twitter, which provided just enough information to ease the fears of the show’s devoted followers while also ratcheting up their excitement for the next season. It was stated on the front cover of the screenplay that David Reed and Phil Sgriccia would be returning to their respective roles as director and writer, at least for the debut episode, which would be named “Department of Dirty Tricks.”
Starr and Chace Crawford, two of the show’s main actors, sent indications to fans that production had begun on the upcoming fourth season by posting images from their trip to Toronto, Canada, where the show has shot every season so far. In a later post, Kripke upped the ante by sharing his own Toronto vacation images on social media. The new information from Kripke lines up with comments made by Karl Urban (Billy Butcher) to Steve Weintraub in June when Urban suggested that production for Season 4 will begin in a few months.
The fourth season will premiere on August 22nd, according to Urban. Urban said, expressing eagerness to join the Seven in battle, “I can’t wait to go home and turn Butcher back on. We have a great time together, work hard and play hard, and I’m forward to seeing what happens next for the characters once we wrap up this season.” These indicate that production on Season 4 has started. The Season 3 conclusion left a lot of opportunity for conjecture, despite the lack of an official Season 4 narrative being disclosed as of yet. The last we saw of Ryan (Cameron Crovetti), he was reconnecting with his father, with whom he had a very fraught history.
Is it possible that Soldier Boy (Jensen Ackles) will return to the show after being frozen at the conclusion of the last episode? Season 4 has not yet been scheduled for release, but we will find out when it is. If we proceed by the old schedule, though, we could find out the answers to our pressing problems before 2024. Holding thumbs… The Boys, seasons 1-3, are currently available on Prime Video for rewatching.
