So far, 2022 has been another fantastic year for the MCU, but one of the most anticipated films of the next decade, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, will not be released until 2023 and will be directed by James Gunn. This next sequel has a lot going for it. However, the debut of Maria Bakalova as Cosmo the Spacedog is sure to be one of Vol. 3’s most entertaining features. Bakalova gave some hints about her character and her experience working with Gunn in a recent interview with Discussing Film. If you ask Bakalova how the mo-capping procedure went for Cosmo, you’ll hear: You bet I was in mo-cap. That’s about all I can say for now; it’s been fantastic. In the same way that I enjoy the films of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, I also enjoy the films of the Dogme 95 movement, which was started by Lars Von Trier and Thomas Vinterberg.
They’re very different from one another, but both are very significant to me. A Dogme 95 film is one that is character/thematically driven rather than having a major focus on things like special effects and is creatively driven by the filmmaker rather than the company. This is a common theme in all of Gunn’s films. To continue, Bakalova would say: “Because the Guardians of the Galaxy were my first MCU love, the opportunity to join the Marvel family was a dream come true. Fan enthusiasm for Volume 3 has been so heartwarming, and it’s been great to see so many people sharing in the anticipation.
It’s priceless, and it reminds you of the importance of your job in the world. The greatest present, in my opinion.” The star of “Borat,” Bakalova, was questioned about her experience working with “Gunn,” and she had nothing but good words to say. I’m in love with James Gunn and hope to spend the rest of my career collaborating with him. To put it simply, he has it all. He’s so gifted that I don’t even know what to say. This guy is hilarious. That guy is a lot of laughs. She gushed, “He’s such a wonderful person. Bakalova would continue her eulogy by stating, “What an example of a person that I’d like to be like. His commitment to his work is inspiring.
I can’t even describe how incredible it is. It was a great fortune for me to be introduced to him and have the opportunity to work with him. In other words, I want to do it all over again. After mocking Cosmo and Vol. 3, the actress said, “we need more puppy love in it!” Something similar is required in the wild. I felt like Cosmo gave me a whole new universe to explore. People should cheer for her and hopefully enjoy it. Since her breakthrough performance in 2020’s Borat: The Sequel Moviefilm, Bakalova has been one of Hollywood’s most talked-about up-and-comers. Because of her funny performance in that film, the actress was nominated for an Academy Award. Since then, Bakalova has been featured in two comedies with great ensemble casts: Netflix’s The Bubble and A24’s Bodies Bodies Bodies. Since his debut appearance in Guardians of the Galaxy, the renowned canine Cosmo has made several brief appearances across the MCU.
What Bakalova adds to this eccentric position remains to be seen. This is especially true given that her brilliant sense of humour perfectly complements what viewers have come to anticipate from a Gunn creation. Hearing Bakalova expresses such enthusiasm for her MCU debut and adoration for Gunn is a treat. With any luck, Bakalova will be around Gunn for a long time. On May 3, 2023, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will be released to theatres, and it will be a more adult movie that will mark the conclusion of this team’s arc.
