Preparations for the sixth season of Black Mirror, Netflix’s popular dystopian series, are well underway, and new information about the upcoming season is constantly being revealed. New sources from Deadline state that Rory Culkin has been added to the already impressive ensemble of the forthcoming series. After news broke that Netflix will definitely produce a sixth season of the anthology series, notable cast members such as Zazie Beetz (Atlanta), Aaron Paul (Breaking Bad), Paapa Essiedu (The Lazarus Project), and Danny Ramirez were announced (Top Gun: Maverick). The role that Culkin will play in the anthology series, which will have more episodes than Season 5’s three, is unclear at this time, but the actor has recently signed a deal to appear in at least one episode, as reported by Deadline.
The roles of the previously announced casts were not disclosed, although it was confirmed that they will appear in the premiere, midseason, and season finale of Season 6. In June of this year, Netflix aired the series finale of Black Mirror. After two seasons, the critically praised dystopian series went off the air for three years, in part because of a change in production companies. Charlie Brooker, the program’s creator and screenwriter, left the House of Tomorrow (supported by Endemol Shine Group) that owned the rights to the show, postponing development for more seasons.
By reaching an agreement with Banijay Group, the company that currently controls Endemol, Netflix was able to bring the series back on the air. Season 6 of Black Mirror will now be distributed through Brooker’s Broke & Bones, a Netflix-backed company. Critics have had mixed reactions to Black Mirror, a science fiction anthology series, but the show has managed to maintain its popularity among viewers throughout the world owing in large part to its stellar ensemble.
Season 5 was highlighted by the presence of stars like Miley Cyrus, Andrew Scott, and Anthony Mackie; with the new castings for Season 6, it appears that Netflix is once again opting to depend on the abilities of its ensemble to propel the beloved series to new heights. Culkin got his start in the business performing alongside his elder brothers, sometimes portraying the younger version of their roles. His brothers are also actors: Macaulay Culkin (Home Alone) and Kieran Culkin (Succession). Eventually, he would stop hiding in the shadow of his older siblings and win a Young Artist Award for his performance in the drama film You Can Count on Me, directed by Kenneth Lonergan.
In the 2000 science fiction horror film Signs, he co-starred with Mel Gibson and Joaquin Phoenix, for which he is most known. Culkin most recently had an appearance in the limited series Under the Banner of Heaven, as Samuel Lafferty, one of the Lafferty brothers. In addition to his role in the Netflix biography series Halston, which also starred Ewan McGregor, Culkin will soon appear in the horror anthology Black Mirror. While the sixth season of Black Mirror has begun production, a premiere date has not yet been announced by Netflix. However, the first five seasons are now accessible to view in their entirety.
