According to an exclusive report from Deadline, Apple and Skydance Media are developing an upcoming action comedy picture called The Family Plan, and Oscar-nominated actor Mark Wahlberg is attached to feature in it. Simon Cellan Jones (Years and Years), who is now attached to direct the film, will once again work with the actor. Their most recent project together, Arthur the King, is in the latter stages of post-production with a release date yet to be announced. David Coggeshall, writer of the recent film Orphan: First Kill, created the script for The Family Plan. Coggeshall is also penning the narrative for Skydance’s Matchbox, which is based on the Mattel toy line of the same name.
The project is still in its early stages, thus no more cast members outside Wahlberg have been disclosed. It has been rumoured that Wahlberg would portray a suburban father whose life is turned upside down when his past catches up to him, forcing him to go on the run with his family. The Family Plan is a film starring Wahlberg and Municipal Pictures’ Stephen Levinson, in which Wahlberg also serves as a co-producer. Skydance’s Dana Goldberg, David Ellison, and Don Granger will join the team as producers.
As development on The Family Plan continues, we may expect to hear more updates, such as casting and filming news. Over the course of his decades-long career, Wahlberg has starred in several films that have gone on to become cult classics, such as Ted, Transformers: Age of Extinction, and Deepwater Horizon. His prior work in the critically acclaimed films The Departed and The Fighter won him two Oscar nods. The movie adaptation of the computer game Uncharted, in which he co-starred alongside Tom Holland, the film was released this year.
Wahlberg also acted in the 2018 film Father Stu as a former boxer who becomes a priest. In addition to the soon-to-be-released The Family Plan, Wahlberg has also been cast in the action thriller picture Our Man from Jersey, directed by Julian Farino, in which he will co-star with Halle Berry (Monster’s Ball) and J.K. Simmons (Whiplash). Fans of Wahlberg have a lot to look forward to in the coming several years, with multiple projects along the road, including The Family Plan. As of yet, there is no confirmed premiere date for The Family Plan because the film is still in production.
